The country is well endowed with many metallic and non-metallic mineral resources.  India is a leading player in respect of many non fuel minerals including, iron ore, bauxite, dolomite, lime stone and mica.  Mining sector (non-fuel) currently accounts for approx 0.5% of GDP.  For accelerated economic growth on sustainable basis, this sector has to grow at a much faster pace to secure   a higher percentage in the GDP.
 
Scientific, sustainable and transparent mining practices require well trained manpower.  Skill development not only enhances productivity and safety at work place, but more importantly, it prepares the manpower to adapt to the new state of art technologies. Currently this sector employs around 0.2 Million workforce which is estimated to grow to 0.3 Million in next 10 years.

Mining sector needs large scale modernization. We require latest technology, machinery & equipment's to do cost effective mining. To operate & maintain those equipment's we require both technical knowledge and skilled workers. The current mining activities are done with obsolete technology and hence cost of mining is very high. The production yield one of the lowest in world. Due to this the safety standard followed is very poor.

To my mind skills are best developed by on job training only. Apprenticeships can definitly help but if performed seriously and sincerely. Because, any body learns best when he faces actual issues in any field. Also it will reduce the so-called boring theoretical part which can also be tought during on-the-job-training. This will also help in generating employment and moulding young people suitably.

Dear Sir, Skill development, S&T and enterprise development as well as manufacturing are interrelated activities which are not separate from each other. Higher investment in S&T sector is desired as it will train skilled hands of many categories. Researchers will develop technologies suited to local geography and skilled trained manpower coupled with technology will create enterprise and manufacturing. Unless and until we keep on importing technologies we will continue paying royalties.

Namaste Sir, ye govt. department ke log.. aam janta ko bohot pareshan krte hain. Voter ID Card banwane ke liye jao to bhi theek se response nhi dete.. Meri mother ko bohot bhaag tod krni pdi.. aur last me fir bhi koi kaam nhi hua.

According to me sub-oriented training is perfect. because today our youth have lots of degree/diploma but they do not have any practical knowledge. why we will be repeat same mistake(degree/diploma)? let start with new system. Through it we can start mining sector development as soon as possible and we will meet with lots of new ideas creation. thank you for giving us these type of opportunity where we can share our views. Explaining the science and logic behind every step, helps workers to deliver better than giving simple commands - do this and do that etc. But these elaborations haveto bedone by those who throughly understand the subject and in simple words in vernacular.

Mining must be a subject from 10th and there should be a stream like Mining and research development in degree as we have BCOM,BBA,BA in degree. So that student can kept clear vision on there career as well subject to skill up there self.
