‘Tourist Friends’ Whenever a tourist visit India they face innumerable issues like language, food, travel, locations, Guides always looking to extract some dollars from them, irrational demands from taxi drivers or shop vendors, fear of safety of themselves and their belongings.

I suggest the concept of ‘Tourist Friends’ wherein High school students from respective cities can be roped in as part-time guide cum friend for foreign tourist on pre-fixed fee. Student having knowledge in foreign language will be added advantage. A select group of students can be given a short training on hospitality etc. The ‘Tourist Friends’ will help tourist in their booking for hotels, location of visit, travel in the city, purchase of local items, acquainting them in historical aspects.

The benefits of ‘ Tourist Friends ’ are manifold- It will help to provide some earning for the students, give them chance to interact with various people thus improving their overall personality, improving their communication skill as they’ll be tasked to communicate effectively with their foreign friend, build relationship between tourist and city residents which will convince tourists to visit again and again.

From Tourist’s point of view, ‘Tourist Friend’ will help them to navigate through the city effectively, save them from overcharging by vendors, will acquaint them from not so much safe part of the city thus ensuring safety and building trust. The tourists through the interaction with their local friends can also get to know about the culture of modern society, the unexplored and unknown facts about the city and make many friends.
