Every year 27th September is celebrated as World Tourism Day. This year the theme of World Tourism Day is Tourism and Rural Development. Tourism helps rural communities hold onto their unique natural and cultural heritage, supporting conservation projects, including those safeguarding endangered species, lost traditions or flavours. Tourism has proven to be a lifeline for many rural communities. The sector is not just a leading source of employment, particularly for women and youth but it also provides opportunities for territorial cohesion and socio-economic inclusion for even the most remote regions.
Our villages and the people who live there are a true custodians and manifestation of our culture.
As we work towards more sustainable development of our country, developing related hard and soft infrastructure and promoting tourism in rural India is much required.

Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with MyGov invites you to share your views ideas on Rural India- How it can leverage tourism.

Respected Sir, in Oct 19, just over a year ago, Sridhar Vembu started Zoho Corporation World HQ in Mathalamparai village in Tenkasi dist, TN. Not only that, last year, the software devP business surprised everyone with a record rev of Rs 3,410 cr. We can make rural areas clean beautiful and can also set good staying facilities with clean toilets can provide electricity and can attract tourists through cultural Heritage sites

1. Each state should appoint a committee (including local panchayat, state & centre representative, environmentalist) who will do survey and bring best of their rural culture on table. 2. Develop a model to elaborate this rural culture with strategy, resources, planning, budgets required, roles of local people & authority, employment 3. Develop a marketing strategy to make it attractive and popular 4. Sanction the model and budget with regular mointering.

In London You have Hyde & other park closeby. Ox/cam u have colleges + river thame activities. Local Farmers/Craftsman selling their wares common in all major towns and they serve promotion centres for rural tourism. Similarly In India all cities on the river /sea coast covering 100 Km radius can do it. One District One product should help.One Good Huge school within every 10-20Km radius would save lac crores/year by replacing all old schools +No more illiterate teachers ayyashing on hindu$

Rural India has rich culture, tradition cuisine a nd what not. By just improving the basic facilities we can harness them as tourist spots Foreigners are very much interested in the rural culture than the city life So by creating a website solely for tourist attraction, culture ,festivals cuisine etc we can promote rural tourism Maybe we can call out volunteers from rural areas to put a write up about their place in the website as they are the best advertisers about their place.

Most of our children believe milk and foods coming from packets. Compulsory village visits must be organised for school children as study tours to inculcate respect and understanding of how food is produced for their consumption. This will also reduce the aversion towards village environment and encourage adoptipn of future rural livelihood by these children.

1. rural industrial areas with factories can be used for informational tours by schools/colleges. 2. for other areas, theme based parks (different for each village) can be set up , which can also serve as an employment opportunity for its local residents.
