Gandhi's first major achievement came in 1917 with the Champaran agitation in Bihar. The Champaran agitation pitted the local peasantry against their largely British landlords who were backed by the local administration. The peasantry was forced to grow Indigofera, a cash crop for Indigo dye whose demand had been declining over two decades, and were forced to sell their crops to the planters at a fixed price.

Gandhi came from a poor family, and he had dropped out of the cheapest college he could afford. Mavji Dave Joshiji, a Brahmin priest and family friend, advised Gandhi and his family that he should consider law studies in London. His mother was not comfortable about Gandhi leaving his wife and family, and going so far from home. To persuade his wife and mother, Gandhi made a vow in front of his mother that he would abstain from meat, alcohol and women.

Gandhi adopted the Indian loincloth, or short dhoti and, in the winter, a shawl, both woven with yarn hand-spun on a traditional Indian spinning wheel, or charkha, as a mark of identification with India's rural poor.

Mahatma Gandhi, the father of India, is respected all over the world. We should celebrate his 150th birth anniversary, by looking at our efforts in reducing India's trade deficits. Increasing employment and reducing the gap between rich and poor. India mart sells many items like Earthworms, Honey bee, etc. but there purchase demand budgets are high say Rs.3000 and above. Agriculture can only bring prosperity to our Nation and food processing should get priority. Khadi food & products-online sale

The Nation is gearing up to offer Karyanjali as a Shraddhanjali (Tribute) to Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi on their 150th Birth Anniversary.

The great leader gandhi had showed us the way of non violence. It should be celebrated in a grand manner. The world's biggest statue of gandhi must be built. During every gandhiji's birth anniversary, the statue must be honoured. Many small competitions should be held. It should be celebrated like a great event.
