Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th November, 2015.

Sir, a smart city also needs to be a secure city. With an expanding metro-megapolis we need not only the police, FOP, but also active participation by citizens through "Neighbourhood Watch" to be able to meet the security concerns. Colonies, local citizens should be actively encouraged to form "societies" which can interact with the authorities. The elderly & children should be especially cautioned for identifying confidence tricksters. Regular area beats by local police should be maintained.

solar power energy should be encouraged at a big level in such a hot city of Chennai. Lot of Solar power should go unutilised. Efforts should be made previously by Govt. of Tamil nadu initiated steps to utilise ground water sources should follow utilisation of Solar power also.

Bring inter-model facility for metro, suburban trains, bus and other transport. Issue NPR in fast track mode as many still not done with that. I myself had registered many months back and visits the zonal office only to come empty hand. In our zone-169 we r yet to get drainage and water connections, nearly five years got over. Not so easy to get the new Ration cards, and other services. Many occupy the streets and they get shrinked. Traffic jams and other hassles to b addressed.

First we dont insert any politician in corporation department because most people is uneducated they want to earning mind so dont know any work and y should area counselors are decided govment work thats a main problem to officers pls be mind free the workers and officers.

I remember this one particular scene from a Tamil Movie "Mudhalvan" where the hero introduces the concept of post box in every street where the public can drop their complaints. But this is not practicable in current scenario. Hence I suggest developing an app "Smart Chennai" where the public can download and submit complaints about potholes, illegal dumps, abanded vehicles etc. In fact this has been introduced in Detroit USA and hence has been widely accepted by the people.

For a place to be smart and clean 1. there should proper sanitation facilities available in public places such as bus, train stations and people should automatically feel the responsibility to use the facilities provided. 2. Dustbins in each and every public place including every compartments in trains and proper maintenance of it. 3. Proper access to all govt related programs and contact numbers in public places and over internet. 4. responsible access to free internet in important areas.

Water logging in streets and laying of plastic roads which will not give away during rains is a must. Study the system of Strom water drain in foreign countries and provide new system for water getting drained more quickly and educating conservancy workers to monitor the inlet for the rain water into Strom water drains ad an additional responsibility and to clear the entry point of any blockages and debries on a daily basis.

Traffic regulations and particularly lane discipline to be enforced with strict control. Public bus drivers to be counseled through periodic class room sessions on how to follow traffic rules like obeying traffic lights. All TRAFFIC LIGHTS to be made functional and effort to make them operational at all times. They need to monitored and if faulty repaired within few hours.

1.solar panels for power generation to be made compulsory even for a single story building..Adequate subsidiaries can be offered to citizens for installation.. 2.Cattles like cows often wander around the city roads causing disturbance to vehicle movements.seperate place can be allotted for their rearing or its movements should be curbed.. 3. School going students driving two wheeler very recklessly often put their life endanger, to be banned driving.violating students parents to be warned..
