Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The municipal geographic information system, iView, makes spatial information available to the public in a large number of spheres: engineering, transportation, community, tourism, education, art, and more.

Expose more information to the public, engineering archive containing all the construction plans of the buildings in the city should be made available to the public free of charge. The purpose behind it is to encourage urban development and save residents the trouble of coming to corporation in person. The scanned construction plans include the building's architectural blueprint, a variety of permits building permit applications, and information files shou;d be made online.

Corporation to allow direct access to municipal databases that are not of a confidential nature. The environment enables the public and app developers to make use of information in municipal databases that deal with community affairs, culture, public health, budgets, statistical data and security.

In which the citizenry is massively engaged in working towards improving the city alongside planners and designers from government and business. Decentralised notions of governance and community action are central to these new forms of participations which use extensive ICT.

The use of ICT to develop new urban intelligence functions. These are new conceptions of the way the city functions and utilise the complexity sciences in fashioning powerful new forms of simulation model and optimisation methods that generate city structures and forms that improve efficiency, equity and the quality of life.
