Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

..,Plant on such species for each roads or streets, only single species of tree should be planted in each road only then it would grown evenly and looks attractive too. Therefore each street should have each species of trees, which will look good and attractive.

..,some 6o years well in advance. Smart Green roads: Also in each area in each street according to the width of the road, corporation can do “themed tree plantation” either on the center of the road or on each sides of the road if the road is wide enough. Corporation should form a “Green Wing” and it should identify the trees that can grow even without water, does not grow bigger to be an obstacle at later time and a colourful tree will be an attractive too. Plant on such species for.,

we have no mechanism of managing high volume pedestrian traffic, in many instances, with no separate pedestrian ways, this traffic converges with the vehicular traffic. This causes serious safety hazards as well as slowing down of traffic movement.

My Ideas Continued., 4. Smart Roads : We need to have roads which is built up of concrete that can absorb water, this technology is already developed in abroad, so we need to do either R&D or obtain such technique to develop these kinds of concrete roads so that there wont be any flooding on roads during rainy seasons. Further before laying such good roads we need to ensure that all underground provisions such as electricity cables, water pipelines, drainage pipelines are made for next..,

Focused efforts should be made to streamline traffic flow at junctions of arterial roads. It can be through a combination of efforts including superior road quality at junctions, road upgrade, widening, clear road markings etc.

Chennai should evolve its own model of solving traffic congestion challenges by leveraging smart technologies to improve the livability of our cities.

ICT-enabled smart traffic solutions have a strong potential to make a difference in solving traffic congestion problems. However, these solutions should be carefully adapted to each city’s unique characteristics and transport legacy.

Encourage open source traffic information by promoting online applications that advise vehicle users on optimum traffic route options. Promote such applications through social media.
