Teachers must be recruited on the basis of their knowledge & not on the basis of their Degrees & Certifications. Most of the degree or certificate holding teachers have just therotical knowledge but no practical knowledge. Centralized Common Test should be conducted for particular subjects in which minimum qualification should be SSC or HSC for technical subjects like computer teacher, drawing teacher, Skill development & Sports teacher, exams must be completely based on related field.

There is a compulsory training of some kind of other for school teachers. But, there is no training for college teachers, including professional colleges. A formal training of one year duration must be made compulsory for college teachers of all sorts. This can be made a necessary qualification like B.Ed.

The quality of teachers is not good at schools. But there is no initiatives to create opportunities for them to improve. So, compulsory training to them in regular period by NCERT (For elementary school teachers: NCERT & Top most Teacher Training Institutes. From Class 6 to 12 teachers: NCERT & CFTIs in Science, Arts, Language) will provide opportunity to widen their knowledge and also to update. Training should be at Top institutions of higher learning of Sci/Art even though NCERT involved.

From Class 3 to 12: Mathematics and Science subjects should be uniform (Same Content, Same Book - May be translated into regional languages depending on medium of instruction). Compulsory training (for 2 weeks in every 3 years) on "Class Experiments Demonstration" for all Science and Mathematics Teachers from Class 6 to 12 during Summer Vacation in CFTIs. Compulsory training (for 2 weeks in every 5 years) on teaching pedagogy & new teaching methodologies by Teacher Training Insts.

A teacher need not be poet if he is teaching Poetry or a scientist if he is teaching science.He must poses the knowledge required to teach. Teaching learning process must be simplified.A postgraduate is not required to teach secondary school student. We need committed teachers, who have great jeal to transfer the knowledge to students. Students shall have option to choose field of his choice in Humanities ,Sciences and Engineering at 10 th class level.

Individual Student Proficiency is an individualistic measure. It can't judge the effectiveness of a teacher. There should be an entire classes proficiency test and a teacher must pass it. The standards should be set - like the minimum number of students carrying a level of proficiency on key subjects like Math, Science and Languages.

For the lower grades, there is a way to build strong bonging between kids and a given teacher. The same teacher remains with the class until the class graduates. For example, a grade 1, class A teacher will move with the same set of students for next year - she will go to Grade 2, Class A.This will continue until the entire class is moved to Grade 5. The teacher will again start from Grade 1 with new set of students. This idea may work if we have quality teachers.

Teachers, especially of the primary grades, as a part of their job should visit their student's home at-least once a year. That will help them better understand specific need of a given child and it will also increase the bond between teach and the entire family of the student. Schools should also have parents day where the parents and kids are invited to the class. Make this compulsory.

Make compulsory for all teachers to participate in 'real-world' activities on the subject they are teaching. Example: A language teacher must do one of following 1) Author a novel during every three year period 2) Write 10 short stories or poems and get it published in a recognized magazine/news paper 3) Write a new drama every year and have shows of it 4) Present a paper in a seminar, etc. The same goes for other subjects like History, Geography etc This will force them to be proactive!
