“The earth, water and the air are not a gift to us from our parents but a loan from our children.” ---Anonymous

Energy resources have transformed human lives and lifestyles. Energy resources have allowed for human achievement and ambition to move from the potter’s wheel, farmer’s plough and the weaver’s loom to space missions and robots among others. However, the modern world looms in the shadow of a severe energy crisis: the result of unsustainable and inefficient use of energy resources.

Unsustainable and inefficient energy consumption threatens the very basis of life as we have come to know it. In the face of the increasing scarcity of energy resources it is imperative that we launch a committed, concerted and cumulative effort towards holistic energy use habits and sustainable consumption patterns.

Energy conservation most importantly means that conservation becomes an all pervasive habit, an everyday philosophy and practice that aims to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, adoption of energy efficient lifestyles and fostering innovations in green and clean energy technologies.

D&NHPDCL invites suggestions, guidance, comments from citizens, self-help groups, environmental organisations towards developing Energy Conservation as a habit towards an energy secure future.

Eg : Chennai station alone lightened up with 5000 tubelights.! Can you calculate how much of energy be conserved if replaced with LED lights!!

making villages not having electricity self sufficient. Instead of spending on transmission and generation to rare areas why not make them self sustaining. A cycle generator like (running on muscle power etc.) can be installed in villages. Implementation 1. Install small plant which will not need much of maintenance and create small jobs. 2. Residents villagers will go there workout , get paid and also electricity in homes. 3. charging electricity bill get maintenance bill accounted.

Reduce Private Vehicles and promote Public Transport by increasing tax for private and decrease or eliminate taxes for buses & metro systems. Make Parking charges on open roads @ Rs.50 per hour and Rs.20 per hour in multi-level parking places. This will reduce parking on roads and reduce obstructions which will increase average speed of vehicles. This will result in reducing wastage of fuel and increase efficiency in travel.

All offices should be asked to provide private vehicles to pool in employees from different areas.Companies can avail extra financial benefit for doing so when filing Tax Returns.

Invertor manufacturer should be advised to bundle a solar cell charger and a convertor as well with their invertors. This will boost the usage of solar energy. This will educate those who know about invertors and solar energy but are not able to combine the too due to lack of easy availability.

For high rise buildings, the common areas' electricity requirement should be essentially met by installing solar panels. For the stairs (which are seldom used in such buildings),the play areas and street lights it should be mandatory that they have LEDs and they run in solar powered cells. This will save a lot of electricity being wasted. Similarly, all street lights may be changed to LEDs from tubelights and powered by solar cells.
