“The earth, water and the air are not a gift to us from our parents but a loan from our children.” ---Anonymous

Energy resources have transformed human lives and lifestyles. Energy resources have allowed for human achievement and ambition to move from the potter’s wheel, farmer’s plough and the weaver’s loom to space missions and robots among others. However, the modern world looms in the shadow of a severe energy crisis: the result of unsustainable and inefficient use of energy resources.

Unsustainable and inefficient energy consumption threatens the very basis of life as we have come to know it. In the face of the increasing scarcity of energy resources it is imperative that we launch a committed, concerted and cumulative effort towards holistic energy use habits and sustainable consumption patterns.

Energy conservation most importantly means that conservation becomes an all pervasive habit, an everyday philosophy and practice that aims to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, adoption of energy efficient lifestyles and fostering innovations in green and clean energy technologies.

D&NHPDCL invites suggestions, guidance, comments from citizens, self-help groups, environmental organisations towards developing Energy Conservation as a habit towards an energy secure future.

The government can consider reducing taxes on bicycles to encourage the use of it. This way oil imports for personal transportation. However a comprehensive road policy for cycle usage in terms of separate lanes, insurance cover etc. need to be put in place.

Instead of giving subsidy on things like LPG etc. subsidy should be given on solar plates,Bio gas plants, Cycles which will encourage the use of this things . It though requires much funding but if we take in consideration other subsidies its too less.

Rate of electricity charges should be in the ratio of consumption. lower charges for basic units and should be increased for higher consumption.it can discourage extravagant use of consumption of electricity. clubs, govt. organisations and other similar organisation should be instructed to use it judiciously. lights are always on in washroom etc. also AC is always on in places like library even if no member is in the room. such wasteful use of electricity should be strictly dealt with.

General and equal treatment should be given to everybody e.g.:the power cuts and water supply to industrial areas and developed areas are supplied without any disturbance and these people are indirectly neglecting the fact that they are also responsible for saving energy. If you have money you can buy -this mentally should change sometimes even the educated people have to be shown the way where the whole world is heading and how can we save it.

Presently apartments are booming and heard as per law they should have a solar power source in the building but thanks to the magic of loop holes and bribe, they are just installing one solar panel to blind government eyes. Proper automated system should be installed and those people who don't try to use natural power should be penalised more. Its not only the responsibility of government or the constructors but also the residents are fully responsible. It should be accountable.

Save energy- 100ways but no determination: 1.Thanks to global warming, we have more sunny days which we can convert into solar energy. Street lights can be solar powered etc.. 2.Wind energy 3.Rain water harvesting- it should not be done to just escape penalty, government should penalise those who don't practically implement it and system to monitor such savings and that can't be bribed. 4. Car-pooling, public transport, cycle should be encouraged so traffic & pollution can be controlled.
