With a dramatic growth in elementary education enrolments and improvements in retention and transition rates in recent years, particularly amongst the more disadvantaged groups, there is an increasing pressure on the secondary schools to admit more students. With the enforcement of RTE Act and further improvement in retention and transition rates, demand for secondary schooling will grow rapidly in the coming years. The objective of this discussion group is to assess to what extent we have made quality education available, accessible and affordable to the target population in the age group of 14–18 years. How we can increase access to post elementary education across the country in a manner so as to ensure no child is denied the opportunity of completing his/her school education. In particular, how can we address the geographical and social disparities in secondary education?

In continuation to my views, I have to add that an extension may please be given to the retiring teachers. The reason for this is that the capabilities can be understood in detail by the parents for the basic culture having a patient listening and communications. I wish there may please be a committee formed in towns and cities. Where there are opportunities who really take efforts in taking classes for various subjects.

Education had to reach one and all girl child. All efforts are to be made to reach every needy family. Regardless to say that in the needy families the knowledge and talent is available but a positive approach is to be made in groups in every city town and village.

Ethics must be made compulsory part of all teachers. It can be inculcated through short term course of 15 days each year on History of civilization of mankind and India. It will motivate teachers.

Schools operating under delhi government have more than 60% contract based teachers. It is taking the education in the backward direction. Teachers are not motivated enough for quality teaching. A teacher with whom students have created a good bonding is not sure of his/her job and can be discontinued in the middle of session. It is problematic for students too. Of course this is one of the reforms but an important one.

English should be made an optional subject. As experts say, only 5% of population have jobs depending on English. For others, it is a waste of time and efforts to learn a foreign language they are not going to use. Sometimes kids from poor families keep failing in English and can't pass 10th or 12th, so they drop out. That also discourages kids from going to school. If someone wants to become a plumber, they can learn the technical words in English but they don't need to learn English literature

Tourism should be consider as a major subject/combination at least from vocational level. There is no such course or combination available for higher secondary students or college students except in few universities. Hence there is a lack of tourism professionals in Indian tourism industry this subject should be taken as a new knowledge system as soon as possible with foreign language option.

School Education should be in such a way that the concepts of subjects are to be application oriented rather than marks oriented.Board Exams of the Secondary Education should be in Objective type because this will be the best method to read the complete book. Updating of the Syllabus should done once in Two Years.

Education should be knowledge implementation based and subjects and syllabus should have a reason to fill employability in terms of Job creator or Job seeker. A clear definition of outcome of every stream should be define st school level e.g. what commerce subjects can lead, similarly for science , for maths, for biology etc. Today the child does not know why he or she is studying a perticular subject.
