There is a need to improve access to child health services. The Ministry of Health is focusing on promoting child health through appropriate interventions. Presently, the Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD addresses the nutritional needs of school going children in the age group of 6-14 years through the Mid- Day Meal (MDM) Scheme. The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under WCD also addresses the issues of child health. There is, however, a need to synergize the multi-sectoral interventions taken by the relevant GOI Ministries. The existing schemes need to be examined for their outcomes and impediments in implementation, including those of coordination. This theme seeks views and suggestions on how to ensure greater focus on child through improvements in existing schemes and suggest new holistic interventions.

The health of a child is the foremost important.Mother Nature is the most necessary aspect for a healthy life.To inculcate the habit of gardening we can formulate a policy at the school level. At the birthdays of the principals and chairmen an afforestation drive must be carried out in the school to make the premises greener. The maintainance of the mass planted trees/ plantlets can be maintained by appointing new gardeners(thus creating new jobs). So,the no. of pupils=no.of trees=gift of fresh air

BEST WAY OF IMPROVING GOVT SCHOOLS IS TO MANDATE THAT KITH & KINS OF ALL LEGISLATORS AND SENIOR OFFICERS SHOULD ADMIT THEIR CHILDREN IN GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS ONLY...THIS WOULD MAKE ALL LOCAL PANCHAYAT MEMBERS, SENIOR BUREAUCRATS, MINISTERS & EVEN CHIEF MINISTER TAKE INTEREST IN CONDITION OF GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS. RESULT WOULD BE THAT ONLY CAPABLE TEACHERS ARE RECRUITED, THERE WOULD BE NO MISUSE OF FUNDS AND BEST PROVISION OF INFRASTRUCTURE WILL AUTOMATICALLY COME.

I visited my state govt school recently, I was sad to know MDM responsibility has hijacked teachers from their primary duty. The teachers do not concentrate on morning assembly/ prayer rather busy with arrangements of cooking. Smoke all around the school premises for preparing food. We are providing mid day meal where there is no need too...Does not it a waste of resources?

please make it as a rule that the kith and kins of all legislators and group A officers have to get admission in government schools only...see the next day right from local panchayat member to collectorate and even the chief minister would take interest in condition of government schools and there would be no illegal teacher recruitment,no misuse of funds, and best provision of infrastructure will automatically come. moreover there will be a check on regional and communal type of teaching...

Ample space, and greenery at home and schools, to play and breathe fresh air. Creat awareness on native and healthy food amongst Parents and children. Discourage junk and instant food. All round development of the child where knowledge alone is not important, brings in a sound mind in a sound body promoting overall good health and ethics
