India has a long tradition of excellence in making handloom products with extraordinary skills and craftsmanship. 44 lakh weavers are engaged in this activity, out of which 78% are women.

By the Handlooms (Reservation of Articles for production) Act, 1985, the Central Government has reserved articles or class of articles for exclusive production of handlooms for the protection and development of the handloom industry.
Further to this effort, the Ministry of Textiles launched “Handloom Mark” scheme with effect from 28.06.2006 for promoting and preserving the Indian handloom products and securing a premium position in the domestic as well as international market. This provides a collective identity to the handloom products of India for popularizing the hand woven products originating from the handloom sector. Thus, the Handloom Mark does not necessarily guarantee a bench mark quality for the product, but ensures only the origin of the product.

Though the weavers produce rich variety of designs and textures, there is not much emphasis on the quality of the product due to various reasons. Experience of implementing Handloom Mark in the past years indicate that this has served the limited purpose of production of cloth by handlooms and not been able to address the quality related parameters which are integral for development of handloom as a niche product.

It is stressed on the need to produce a fabric “with no defect and no effect on environment” and develop “Indian Handlooms” brand for assuring quality products meeting social and environmental compliances.

according to my point of view Everthng should be changed in accordance with time and condition .. As now society is changing so according to it,demand of clothing is also changing ..so thats wy if indian handlooms wants to be in race than it to be changed also.. Now condition is such that evry top level sarees such as..1 Benarasi silk saree ..2.Kanchivorum saree ,,3.khadi are loosing there status.. but glad to know that Sambalpuri saree is making its own identity in a new form

Now a days, things of western culture are 'status symbols'. If we look deep into it we find that children have no other option than watching cartoon shows run by foreign countries, which makes children fancy foreign culture(like jeans etc.). Similarly if we create children centered channels, do good advertising(especially in foreign), our Indian hand loom can be set as a 'status symbol' in foreign. If we target children with our advertising, the effects will act slowly but will be long lasting.

Create an online shop. Should have outlets in different cities like New York. With the help of fashion designers create unique pieces.

Its best option to adopt ONLINE SALES by govt itself or buy auction (private sectors) whichever bring more profit to the worker. When a foreign company can reach village people its not at all difficult to brand Indian Hand looms. This will also allow to connect and sell the product out of country.

to ensure quality standerds to the consumers govt should apply hallmark to the products . by providing hallmarks to the product will help assuring the consumers just like ISI mark on the products ensure the genuiness of the product..and the products with a specific hallmark will be a brand itself and by some marketing only the logo the products will be promoted itself as a brand

When I visited Lakkundi I just surprised to see the sanitation condition within the town. I am mentioning it here because Lakkundi is famous for handlooms and historical importance. So the basic facilities* and connectivity to such centers should be improved and the other major draw back is such products are sold through govt agencies, but in the shop nobody advertise as private does especially in case of Khadi.Proper advertising during sales, customer satisfaction new designs all should be note

It could be developed by following manners: i) Easy borrowing option,ii) Government should focus necessary infrastructural development for these sector, iii)Government can make good promoting activities in urban e.g:various advertisement mode iii) Separate public bodies which could look after their need and development options iv)Promoting it internationally that could boost the export options also.
