India's tourism potential is huge as the country has innumerable and unique attractions. Government can plan to capitalise on this. Private sector activies need to be coordinated. They should look for a long term industry development opportunities rather than making quick money.Swatcch BHarat initiative is crucial for attracting tourists.

The Government needs to ensure that people employed in the tourism sector are well trained and well informed about requirements of their jobs, professional, courteous and helpful in their approach. Tourist guides should have excellent language skills and knowledge to provide authentic information and their charges should be transparent. Tourists should not get the feeling they have been swindled.

Tourism is one of a few sectors that is labour intensive and can employ semi-skilled people. A foreign tourist arriving in an Indian airport will need services such as taxi/transport, hotel, food, reliable information, shopping of unique goods etc. A well organised tourism sector can create millions of jobs for people with language skills and secondary education.
