Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

1. Use platform sheds to generate power by covering them with solar panels. The power thus generated will be sufficient for a station's requirement, reducing astronomical electricity bills to a mere pittance. 2. Use vast network to provide data coverage all over India, and charge rental from providers. 3. Introduce mobile bar services in trains selling beer, wine etc. in line with European, American, Chinese and other major economy train services. 4. Add a coach for gaming section.

Dear Sir Kindly see the comments below: 1. Replacement of all old lighting system with LED lights in all the stations and offices 2. Installation of solar power system for all the stations with net metering facility to sell power to the grid. 3. Waste recycling...plastic/metal items/papers collected in the trains/stations 4. Electronic advertisement boards in the local trains-internal and external both 5. Minimize use of paper and printing in railway offices by using of digital documents

Revenue saved is revenue earned. There is a huge wastage of diesel as engines run idle at stations. Investment in electric traction is a must. Productivity is very poor due to age old job contents still being in vogue. Do an in-depth analysis of manpower requirements and implement lean management. Road transport is costly and a national waste. Not much effort is being put with proper analysis to attract load towards railways.

1-regular ticket check in all train as well as at station. 2-slightly hike the fare for long distance traveling 800 km onwards. 3-allow to only authorised vendors in train for selling their products who pay tax to indian railway. 4-provide electronic ticket/fine machine to ticket collector. 5-Try to replace all diesel engines by electric engine train. 6-open small shopping mart to major railway stations it will help passengers as well as to collect tax.

The cashless economic concept is a golden opportunity for Indian Railways which can provide high quality data access network coverage at thousands of villages along its tracks with its shorthaul Fibre optic network. The required manpower and machine are already available with Railways. With minimum investment and liason with banks, these assets can prove cash earners for Railways.

#NonFareRevenue, #IndianRailways, #Railways, #MyGov, #BhavinThakkar, #Winwin. #WhoAreWe #Logistics. Have a vision, mission & values to run Indian Railways, MyGov should be through. Give Indian Postal Services exclusive space, open up policies on StateRun Suburban Transport, deliver Man and goods in a day at distant places. We can have a balanced and legitimate fare. Can share the plan once idea is brainstormed.

My suggestion is related to daily passengers : 1.Make some line in every alternate compartment doors, such that the passengers can get inside the train in first come first serve basis. Inside passenger should come out through successive doors, thru which nobody can get in. An add station charge (applicable in populated station during office hours) shall be charged. 2.Res of a comp portion for Patients or emg serv(Exam,business etc.) against extra charge. Can be taken inside the compartment.

Sr. Citizens with limited baggage could be offered battery van support for transporting them to the required platform or from platform to outside the station, for a specified charge.

Though strictly this is not non-fare suggestion. For consideration. All lower berths to be reserved only for Sr.Citizens and a percentage of them could be allotted to non-senior citizen passengers, who are disadvantaged passengers or on medical grounds for an additional rate.
