Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

We need to market our railways stations better (in addition to making them clean, lively and hospitable which the government is already working on) in order to get more non fare revenue. One way to do that is to have shops/kiosks selling merchandise that a particular city is known for. This should also be available through e-commerce channel as well. E.g. if there is a free wi-fi available at the railway station then this e-com website should be the entry point.

3) giant british era officer's quarters should be converted into holiday homes available to public on payment.in the same manner officer's guest houses should also be converted into holidayhomes made available on rent to general public when not booked by officers who should also book through online mode only. 4) stop misuse of british era perks like saloons to officers. reduce number of passes to railway employees. instead they should be given LTC facilities just like other govt servants.

You can generate money from railway passengers without increasing fare. You can ask money from people to deposit to railway & railway will provide some priority service to these special customers. You can use the money for a specific time period like 1 year, 2 year or 5 year & return after that with nominal interest. There are lakhs of people traveling daily from railway & they will surely like priority service to make their journey more happy. You will have enough money to spend at right place.

1)professional management of commercial publicity by roping in private professional bodies instead of government inspectors who have no idea of this sector. 2)break the monopoly of substandard catering services. allow popular brands to provide catering service freely. review their empannelment based on positive feedback of passengers. already the quality control comes under state domain. quality control by railway only result in substandard food quality. so this dual control must go.

As there are fancy advertisements on the body of the metro rail in similar way you can advertise some products of companies in our compartment bodies as you know sir multinational companies are spending crores in advertisements and this will also boost the start up plan of our honourable Prime Minister.

1)Appoint more TTEs and also appoint Supervisor for TTEs. 2) Make the station closed(i.e covered) by surroundings so passengers must exit through specified gate and non ticket goers will be caught. 3)Send TTEs in every trains including local,DMUs,EMUs etc , more than 40% travelers don't purchase tickets because TTEs are not checking . 4) Railway must sell water, snacks,cold drinks etc in Express,Superfast trains. 5) Set Revenue target for bonous Thanking #IndianRailways for serving INDIA

Indian railways are the India's Largest and one of the most cost effective modes of transport. My Suggestions are 1. Railways should now start to emphasise on transporting Raw Materials like food and early perishable foods. 2. Should Opt for much bigger and wider network of cold chains which will include refrigerated transportation system. 3. Also should start the transportation of live stock (Cattle) as this part is mainly done by road transport. 3. A Dedicated Transport Hub.

the budget jo February ko aane wala hai usme ak decision lena hoga ki jitne vi supar fast exp hai sabka fare increase karna hoga sirf ac and sleeper class ka . next the very impotent though:- savi sampark kranti exp me lhb coaches lagna chahiye or sampark kranti ko rajdhani type ka krna chahiye jisse railway ke revenu vi increase hoga..kyoki avi railway me maximum 20 samprk kranti train chalti hai or jyadatar bi-weekly chalti hai to ak rake 20 coach ka enough hai ak train.think it

As is done in Konkan railways, carrying vehicles (cars, trucks, etc) from town to town may be done for a fee. In addition to increasing rail revenue, this would help reduce traffic on roads and also facilitate private car owners to travel long distances in their own car and return after using the car in the destination town. Railways will have to provide sufficient platform coaches for the purpose, so that vehicles can easily board in and out.
