With the possibility of Qatar taking a long time to resume supplies of Natural Gas, perhaps it is time to revive the use of Coal Gas (Town Gas). It was a popular energy source at one time. It should be restricted to bulk users like restaurants, etc to the extent possible. Such institutions can be expected to take the precautions necessary for safe use of Coal Gas. The technology is established and even Indian Coal can be economically used. The Natural Gas challenge is going to be around for a long time.
