In Tamil Nadu paddy stored in open storage facility are destroyed during heavy rain and due to poor maintanence. Tons of paddy are stored in open environment and the paddy gets wet and it becomes useless. This has to be prevented and Government should take stern action on such wastage of paddy and rice bags. A proper storage facility in all Villages should be there. Likewise farmers throw the vegetables and flowers during the surplus arrival and it's a big loss for them. Government should come out with a solution to help farmers to have a uniform rate during surplus arrival. So that the farmers can sell it instead of throwing or dumping on road sides. State Government should provide cold storage facility and dry storage facility to protect the vegetables, fruits, flowers and cereals from heat and moisture. A farmer's hard work and effort should not get wasted. They should get fair price and profit for their hard work and effort. Middle man looting in between should be stopped.

PMFBY provides a comprehensive insurance cover against failure of the crop thus helping in stabilising the income of the farmers. The Scheme covers all Food & Oilseeds crops and Annual Commercial/Horticultural Crops for which past yield data is available and for which requisite number of Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) are conductedbeing under General Crop Estimation Survey (GCES). The scheme is implemented by empanelled general insurance companies. Selection of Implementing Agency (IA) is done by the concerned State Government through bidding. The scheme is compulsory for loanee farmers availing Crop Loan /KCC account for notified crops and voluntary for other others. The scheme is being administered by Ministry of Agriculture.

The focus areas with regards to implementation of PMFBY are as follows: Spreading awareness through publicity campaigns. Educating farmers about the benefits of the scheme to persuade them to get coverage under PMFBY. Wide coverage of non-loanee farmers under the scheme.

Farmers are future of our nation. Government is working a lot to improve the conditions of agriculture and it's alliances. The root problem is the lack of awareness among farmers related to different schemes and programs as well as technicalities of sustainable agriculture . So I suggest to involve the students for internship or a field work(with some nominal pay) with adequate training before hand, so they spread awareness as well as help farmers to actually observe the desired result at ground level. This will have 2 benefits, firstly awareness among farmers will increase, sustainable agriculture and secondly, the youths who are dragging away from rural agriculture realty will get involved for the growth of our nation.
