Calling for stories, videos and ideas on the 11 Fundamental Duties!

Commemorating the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India this year on 26th November, 2019 , the Government of India launched a campaign focusing on creating awareness on the Fundamental Duties that are enshrined in Chapter IV-A (Article 51A) of the Indian Constitution throughout the country.

Fundamental Duties impart directions of citizenship behaviour on the part of all concerned. The onus of implementation of Fundamental Duties is on every citizen. Though not legally enforceable, they have an inherent element of compulsion regarding compliance because what is duty for one is another person’s right.

By practicing and thus reinforcing these Fundamental Duties, we, as common citizens, can play a positive and effective role in fulfilling our duties towards our country and fellow citizens and will also ensure that India occupies a rightful place in the comity of nations.

MyGov in collaboration with Department of Justice invites you to share your stories, videos or ideas on the 11 Fundamental Duties.
• to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem
• to cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom
• to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India
• to defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so
• to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women
• to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture
• to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife, and to have compassion for living creatures
• to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform
• to safeguard public property and to abjure violence
• to strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement
• who is a parent or guardian to provide opportunities for education to his child or, as the case may be, ward between the age of six and fourteen years.

If someone in the family gets sick, the family often gets trapped in poverty, partly due to the high cost of health care. The health-care system is also overstretched.

For example, the poorest of the poor and the most marginalized sections of the society are not only at a greater risk for communicable and NCDs, but are also least able to cope with the diseases resulting from these risk factors.

Moreover, great disparities between the rich and poor (and between those living in urban and rural areas) in access to health services continue to exist in the society.

The epidemiological transition is, in fact, being fueled by the social and economic determinants of health and by some old and some new risk factors such as globalization, unplanned and unregulated urbanization, changing life styles, environmental causes (e.g., climate change and air pollution), and increasing influence of media and advertising.

As already stated, the mortality rates are declining but the rate of decline remains relatively slow, compared to that being achieved by other South Asian neighbors, with exception of Pakistan.

However, it still is much higher than the global average for the same period of 33.6 per 1,000 live births (World Health Statistics 2015). According to the sample registration system (SRS) report of Oct 2015, the IMR is now 40 per 1,000 live births.

Also of significant concern is the maternal mortality ratio and infant mortality rate (IMR) remain unacceptably high. The IMR, which was 81 in 1990, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), declined to 41.4 per 1,000 live births in 2013

R. Sir, My query relates to anomaly in Income Tax causing acute hardship to retired individuals & Sr Citizens hence need to be corrected immediately to offer some real relief to them Abolish personal income tax on dividend income as it is paid out of tax paid profits by listed Companies. It is a case of double tax on same income. Earlier it is a case of triple taxation prior to abolition of DDT Pls kind enough to read attached PDF for details. Tks & Rgds Vimal Jain Mumbai

Four diseases namely heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic pulmonary diseases contribute nearly 80% of all deaths due to NCDs and they share four common risk factors namely tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, unhealthy diet, and lack of physical activities.
