In 1950 – 51, the top 10 % held around 36% of national wealth, which progressively declined till the 1980's. But after the structural changes in the Indian economy in 1990's, there has been an exponential rise in the wealth of top 10% earners in Indian economy.

Inequality in the society is one of the major roadblocks to building a better nation. According to the latest world inequality report 2018, the top 1% earners corner a massive 22% of the national wealth, while the top 10% corners 56% of the national wealth.
