The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

Academic organizations should organize community outreach programmes as mandatory event. This can be organized in local areas, school, colleges etc. in association with administrative authorities. E.g. “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan”.

1.Colleges should start various social programmes in every 6 months. 2.Students who actively participate in these programmes should be given extra weightage in their marksheet. 3.lectures of prestigious people should be arranged in every college. 4.Great indian history has various examples of social works, these works should included in the syllabus to motivate students.

I think practical/job oriented education should link to society. Since, Prime minister has launched this Make in India hence we need to bring more practical education to society so that people can adopt it easily. like vocational training, ITI education and basic to advanced computer education for all people across society

We all are aware of bad quality education at primary level, particularly in the schools run by government machinery. We have some social schemes in the universities like NSS and military training by NCC. In the similar line GOI can create NES (National Education Service) or some thing like that, where student from Universities, IIT, NIT etc can take the teaching responsibilities, the way they take NSS or NCC. They can provide a tutorial like class in the evening or morning.

I believe compartmentalizing higher education into science and humanities streams has led to a vast majority of educated youth being alienated from social issues. Promoting incorporation of social sciences like history and sociology along with technical subjects at university level for engineering and medicine fields will go a long way in developing educated youth more aware of the needs of our society.

Sir Now a days the competition in the international standard has been increased so in order to compete wit other nations, the indian students have to be more prepared on their practical knowledge. I prefer to develop practical knowledge to the future kids rather book knowledge by introducing real experimental based class in school and project based mark system in every college semester
