The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

The complaint about brain drain is unjustified keeping in mind the exploitation with respect to salaries in India. Promotions should be made on the basis of capabilities and not on the basis of seniority like government organizations in India. Skills are not utilized properly here and salary increases on the basis of seniority and not talent. We need RTI to ensure the government works properly for creating infrastructure, else our taxes will keep rising to compensate for the poor.

yes in india less practical knowledge for technical students. its better to add the practical work experience to the technical students. mainly research and development side schools or collages assign projects to students individually. that is helps to improve the student practical knowledge.... thankyou.

Our higher education programmes are mostly theoretical and less practice-oriented. In India, its easy to be qualified with a degree without having adequate knowledge of the subject or its application in industry/society. The main problem is that higher education is fed by schools where rote learning limits the learner's mind and his true abilities. We must focus on teacher education and development, for teachers who are deficient themselves would generally restrict their learners too.

Hr.Eduatiion shall be available to all Indians at affordable cost.Private Educational agencies shall not be allowed to make it a business to exploit students by way of higher fee and poor amenities.Student support programs and scholarships shall be given generously in academic /technical areas where India has poor human resource potential.Central govt shall start an agency to help Indians to find job placement abroad which in turn pay to India in terms of earnings send by them to their families.

The instill societal values into children 1) Start early 2) Participation of schools in societal work like raising money for fellow kids suffering from cancer, cleaning public places etc. They should also get credit for this 2) Parent Teachers Association virtually nonexistent in India. The PTA organizes various activities for children that are fun and at the same time educational. In this process they also raise money which can be used for various purposes like relief for floods etc

Sir, how can we link higher education to society when the schools are charging hefty fees from the parents. We are just producing professionals and not devoted citizens to the society. Please have a glimpse by clicking on the image given below.
