The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

Healthy clothes 2 Our gods like Shankar, Ram Krishna, Hanuman, Ganesh,do not wear shirts.Half pant and Hosiery white T shirt is the most healthy dress for gents in India for non winter months.Women should device similar comfortable respectable dress. With this dress we all should work for 1 or 2 hours daily in afternoon sun to get adequate vitamin D daily. As of today most Indians are deficient in Vitamin D.This reduces general immunity. All get cough cold, but one with low vitamin D get ill & die

Healthy clothes 1 In India day room temperature exceeds 28 degrees Celsius for 8-9 months in most places. We are comfortable at 25-26 degrees. At 28 degrees Celsius we sweat. It is summer. So 28 degrees and more is uncomfortable to us. Our clothes add to this warmth.Lesser the clothes better,Looser the clothes the better. Hosiery clothes are best as they allow ventilation. All our gods like Shankar, Ram Krishna, Hanuman, Ganesh, do not wear shirts.

provide them with tools to handle those challenges. E.g. have better sporting facilities, provide psychiatric aid to cope with the challenges, improve teaching and testing standards, bring in a research orientation to studies, provide aptitude enhancing, etc. Just removing stresses won't help them in long term. The employability of such students is in question, industries are starved for skilled labor.

Improving health at minimum cost 2 Putting in school curriculum information about how kids can care for themselves in form of poems, stories, experiments etc., is one way of ding this. This way we reach half the population. and every home.Because each home has a student. TV serial /movies/ cartoons , animation films .t.v. advertisements is another.

Reduce Noise pollution as follows 1 Times of India says every 10th Mumbai youth has partial deafness.Reason? Noise pollution. loud earphone music.Cities have big buildings. So echo multiplies the noise pollution. It is highest in festivals. Loud speaker operators are ignorant about noise pollution. We need volume regulators for horns of all vehicles including rail engines. We need sound pollution measuring machines every where. Now a mobile can do this job after downloading a free app.

Free nation of 16 vaccine preventable illnesses.2 For example every one should take tetanus vaccine every 10 years. No one takes. If we take this we do not need tetanus toxoid after any injury. It is presumed that one has received 3 or 4 doses of tetanus vaccine earlier. If one has not received them then one has to take 3 doses at a gap of 2-4 months in first year.If all students get tetanus toxoid, all girls & their babies will be protected and neonatal tetanus will disappear.Let us Do this.

Free nation of 16 vaccine preventable illnesses.1 Government has eradicated polio.Similarly we can get rid of 16 illnesses with vaccines. India became free on 15th August. So 15 th of every month / or First Sunday every month should become national vaccine day. That day parent of all kids should check their vaccine card and complete vaccination. Even if we do this job country will be benefitted. For example every one should take tetanus vaccine every 10 years. And no one takes.

Education must be made more holistic, Stress and hardships are part of life and education prepares us for that. I support that we must make education more fun, interactive and digitally enabled but for this quality must not be compromised. This has happened lately and I am shocked at the level quality has degraded. No board exams, grade system and all the peripheral changes have diverted us from the real issue of content and approach. We need to provide challenges to the growing mind but also
