India has a rich legacy of practices and knowledge touching different spheres of life and a scientific heritage traversing various Science & Technology (S&T) domains. The traditional knowledge of India is available in various forms such as classical texts, manuscripts and/or as oral communication that has been passed on over thousands of years. This valuable knowledge is often part of our daily practices as well. Some of the traditional practices are livelihood means of the concerned knowledge holders. Our traditional practices exist in synergy between human needs and nature, often balancing resources and requirements in a local context. However, with time, India’s Traditional Knowledge Systems are eroding rapidly, and the nation has also been witnessing erosion in people’s faith towards our traditional knowledge. A grave concern is the mindless attitude of some to mimic non-Indian cultures and disdain for our traditions. It’s important to recognize that traditional heritage is an integral part of any country’s development and progression. This calls for necessary attention and action from the concerned stakeholders in the country to build further on our scientific inheritance. Only a well-informed and balanced society can drive the advancement of the country.

Under the visionary leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister and President, CSIR Society, Shri Narendra Modi, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is spearheading the efforts to collaborate with the relevant partners from across the country and implement the national initiative SVASTIK (Scientifically Validated Societal Traditional Knowledge) for communicating India’s traditional knowledge to the society. CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) is the nodal organization to implement this national initiative.

The prime mission of the initiative is to conserve scientifically validated traditional practices, and instil confidence in citizens regarding the scientific values of our traditional knowledge/practices.

We invite the suggestions of academicians, researchers, subject-matter experts, students, NGOs, and the public on how to instil confidence in society about our traditional knowledge and practices. This will help us in our mission to inculcate a scientific temper and instil confidence in citizens by stimulating the Science-Scientist-Society connect towards our traditional knowledge and practices.

Some Traditional Festivals have unique Environmental and Scientific Values. One Such was the TRaditional Ganesh Chathurthi Festival in South India. Here unlike the rest of the country, Traditionally, Only Clay Ganesha is used for the Pooja. Atleast until 50 Years ago, This Ganesha was Hand made and there is an environmental reason behind it. In the Villages, This encouraged the villagers to not only showcase theoir artistic skills, but also to take clay from the local Wells/ Ponds/ Lakes or Rivers, in turn helping in removing silt as a collective step by the society. This clay was then used in making Ganesha and praying. Removing the Clay during that part of the year will help in ensuring that the next rainfall, can fill these tanks/ ponds and will cause lesser floods (and it is considered the rains will come post Ganesh Chathurthi). Attached a video link of How to make Clay Ganesha

Our 3 spiritual texts known as the"prasthana trayee" rank the highest in the world. We need to pass on this knowledge to the future generations. it's imperative that BHAGAVAD GITA is made mandatory atleast in Hindu educational institutions. conduct of GITA summer camps online for different age groups should be encouraged. GITA is NOT a religious text. it's a guide for day-to-day living. Propagation of spirituality alone can make people see sense in this maddening and worsening world. it's like a vaccination for the present day evils. Controlling the negative feelings of hatred, jealousy, greed violence and arrogance can be achieved only with good knowledge of the BHAGAVAD GITA. Positive feelings of compassion, love, and kindness can also come only from BHAGAVAD GITA. competitions, quizzes, workshops, debates and discussions on the BHAGAVAD GITA should be launched so as to slowly but surely infuse the teachings into common people. it can be introduced as an optional subject

To control incidents creating religious disharmony in country like happened in Gurudwara Be-Adbi, Church vandalism, Descaration of mosques, of Hindu religious symbols, beliefs. Recent DU professor insult is unthinkable in other religion. Majority of the country is insulted of their beliefs for 350 years by Wazu on Shivling/Jyotirling. For these please: 1. Amend criminal law to incorporate offences of creating religious disharmony like Blasphemy law in Pakistan but with reduced punishment upto 10 years. This should be evidenced based not witness statement based. It should be non bailable cognizable offences. 2. Remove word secular from Constitution Preamble. We are secular by conduct and same need not be specific. It gives impression that certain section are more privileged. 3. Please repeal places of worship act if needed to protect ancient civilization. 4. Most of reservation benefits are cornered by those who are already well off. Please do away all form
