Traditional practices includes the traditional dressing, food and drinks. When Bharat was colonised, we were seen as primitives and our practices where classified as low and undignified. We started adopting the ways of the invaders and made way for the downfall of our traditions. Indians had their own dressing styles, with slight difference between the different regions. our women wore dresses like sarees because it is comfortable for the Indian climate. Our foods suited the climate and most of the foods are regional with variety of health benefits. But our traditional foods were replaced or modified by the invaders and lead to a change in lifestyle. We are still not out of the influence of colonisation.
Most of the waste plants which grow in our backyard have medicinal properties but we are not aware of them. Some are
the toothache plant/palluvedana chedi(acmella oleracea)
Murikootti- for wounds,diarrhoea,kidney stones
Thoothuvalai-for tb,sinus,asthma etc (Solanum trilobatum)
