India has a rich legacy of practices and knowledge touching different spheres of life and a scientific heritage traversing various Science & Technology (S&T) domains. The traditional knowledge of India is available in various forms such as classical texts, manuscripts and/or as oral communication that has been passed on over thousands of years. This valuable knowledge is often part of our daily practices as well. Some of the traditional practices are livelihood means of the concerned knowledge holders. Our traditional practices exist in synergy between human needs and nature, often balancing resources and requirements in a local context. However, with time, India’s Traditional Knowledge Systems are eroding rapidly, and the nation has also been witnessing erosion in people’s faith towards our traditional knowledge. A grave concern is the mindless attitude of some to mimic non-Indian cultures and disdain for our traditions. It’s important to recognize that traditional heritage is an integral part of any country’s development and progression. This calls for necessary attention and action from the concerned stakeholders in the country to build further on our scientific inheritance. Only a well-informed and balanced society can drive the advancement of the country.

Under the visionary leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister and President, CSIR Society, Shri Narendra Modi, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is spearheading the efforts to collaborate with the relevant partners from across the country and implement the national initiative SVASTIK (Scientifically Validated Societal Traditional Knowledge) for communicating India’s traditional knowledge to the society. CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) is the nodal organization to implement this national initiative.

The prime mission of the initiative is to conserve scientifically validated traditional practices, and instil confidence in citizens regarding the scientific values of our traditional knowledge/practices.

We invite the suggestions of academicians, researchers, subject-matter experts, students, NGOs, and the public on how to instil confidence in society about our traditional knowledge and practices. This will help us in our mission to inculcate a scientific temper and instil confidence in citizens by stimulating the Science-Scientist-Society connect towards our traditional knowledge and practices.

India is getting huge amount of human waste on daily basis to convert it green Energy to meet target of net-zero before 2070.Our real power is our man-power but not able to think *Z to A* approach. Why not to make jail in deep desert of rajasthan and use jail manpower (including prisoners)to convert that area in greenery by using human fertilizers as a green manure?R&D is required in this field.why we are not making world class glassy crockery out of sand desert which is available in plenty?.

Many years ago there was a practice of applying Gingely Oil on head and take bath mandatorily on Saturdays and wash the head using Shikakai Powder or Gram Dal powder. Today this traditional practice is almost gone among the present generation. The head bath helped to keep the body cool and prevented many diseases. Many use artificial shampoos and hair dyes and lose their hair. Tradition of applying pure coconut oil regularly on head has gone resulting in hair lose, lice and dandruff among many people. There should be an awareness on having head bath on Saturdays. Many fail to understand the importance of these kind of traditional practices prescribed and followed by our ancestors and fall prey to advertisements which ridicules our traditions. A separate website containing all traditional practices followed across India will make youngsters to realise that we have a very rich traditions than other countries. Hope many will think about this and create an awareness among their people.

This is about restoration of hair. With pollution, depression etc., many lose hair, prematurely. Traditional knowledge from Andhra Pradesh, Soapnut or Kunkidikai (Telugu) has great proven restorative of lost hair. Make a paste of the soapnut in hot water, apply to scalp regularly, about 1 hour before bath. rinse off, donot use any soap or shampoo. in few months you will see growth happening. Change oldpillow and keep bedclothes, linen clean. Old, unclean pillows have millions of microscopic germs eating away at your scalp when asleep. Soap nut is different from shikakai. It is round, and the juice very bitter.Be careful preventing the juice going into eyes, can cause inflammation and redness, one way all dead layers from eye will be washed away.

Respected Sir One thing very very badly needed in our countrymen -women is Patriotism. In our country meaning of Independence has been changed to what we say in kannada " SWATANTR SE SWECHACHAARA" Not only in education system but also for everyone. Every individual should respect India. OTHERWISE there must be heavy punishment which should be given immediately as & when they disrespect our Nation. This is my humble request sir. Where political leaders don't have respect towards our country, their followers's way of thinking goes in same direction only. Irrespective of their position everyone should get punishment for thoughts against nation. Please implement this sir this is my humble request.

This is a rare opportunity for us to post whatever traditional knowledge we gleaned from our elders. On my part I submit the following three homely medications that worked for me. 1) Bed-sores get healed if kept covered with betel leaves. 2) The water filtered out after boiling Guava leaves in it and used in warm condition acts as effective mouthwash. 3) A diet of rice (boiled soft) mixed with a little lemon juice and sugar helps to heal an upset stomach. I am not a doctor and have no competence to suggest any remedy. I have posted the above only with the hope that a knowledgeable reader might invent effective formulations for Made in India medicines. It is necessary to add a disclaimer lest a reader tries any of the above remedies. THE ABOVE ARE ONLY MY PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS AND NOT FOR ANYBODY TO APPLY IN PRACTICE.

Must have to give practical knowledge of life experience to the students. So that they will be all rounder and have the power to face difficult situations.
