India has a rich legacy of practices and knowledge touching different spheres of life and a scientific heritage traversing various Science & Technology (S&T) domains. The traditional knowledge of India is available in various forms such as classical texts, manuscripts and/or as oral communication that has been passed on over thousands of years. This valuable knowledge is often part of our daily practices as well. Some of the traditional practices are livelihood means of the concerned knowledge holders. Our traditional practices exist in synergy between human needs and nature, often balancing resources and requirements in a local context. However, with time, India’s Traditional Knowledge Systems are eroding rapidly, and the nation has also been witnessing erosion in people’s faith towards our traditional knowledge. A grave concern is the mindless attitude of some to mimic non-Indian cultures and disdain for our traditions. It’s important to recognize that traditional heritage is an integral part of any country’s development and progression. This calls for necessary attention and action from the concerned stakeholders in the country to build further on our scientific inheritance. Only a well-informed and balanced society can drive the advancement of the country.

Under the visionary leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister and President, CSIR Society, Shri Narendra Modi, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is spearheading the efforts to collaborate with the relevant partners from across the country and implement the national initiative SVASTIK (Scientifically Validated Societal Traditional Knowledge) for communicating India’s traditional knowledge to the society. CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) is the nodal organization to implement this national initiative.

The prime mission of the initiative is to conserve scientifically validated traditional practices, and instil confidence in citizens regarding the scientific values of our traditional knowledge/practices.

We invite the suggestions of academicians, researchers, subject-matter experts, students, NGOs, and the public on how to instil confidence in society about our traditional knowledge and practices. This will help us in our mission to inculcate a scientific temper and instil confidence in citizens by stimulating the Science-Scientist-Society connect towards our traditional knowledge and practices.

My sincere request to our prime minister Narendra modiji and the ministry of culture.....please introduce a "one nation one language " policy...that is "Eka bharath eka bhaasham".....and that should necessarily be Sanskrit, because Sanskrit is the only language which would be easy for everyone to learn. Sanskrit should become our official language...if that happens then all the citizens can participate in our democracy process......Sanskrit is the mother of all language. All the Indian language has some or the other similarities to Sanskrit.....Please make use of technology to teach every citizen of India to learn Sanskrit every day...People just have to spend some time every day in learning Sanskrit....People should be penalised if they try to paint any religious colours to Sanskrit.....Sanskrit is a language of logic and meaning..It should never be politicised...First make our people learn our own language sir

The knowledge of our ancestors was vast. Ayurveda should be promoted more. They excelled in science, technology and mechanics too. They were far ahead in terms of knowledge in astronomy and space science including the vimana technology and the time units in space. Everyone should be encouraged to learn about our time units. The temples and sculptures are not carved for beauty, they tell us specific details and messages. We can visit traditional artefacts makers, learn from them and students should be also encouraged to take up traditional arts and artefacts making so that this knowledge is not lost

I've got lot to say about this topic.. 1) Start with teaching sanskrit and the regional languages at school for all. Sanskrit is the base for learning all the scriptures which not only include mantras, but all the details about ancient practices, science and technology. Don't limit sanskrit to religion, it is the language of BHARAT. 2)Change the contents of the textbook. Bring in more details about the Indian history, rulers, art, culture, science, technology. The science textbooks need to detail about the forgotten Indian technology. Calculus, trigonometry and many other mathematical concepts were mentioned in vedas. The textbooks should also include these and Vedic maths be also promoted. 3)Students be taken on tours to places where they can see the marvels of Bharat. This is better than tours to amusement parks and beaches. 4) Introduce courses at school and college level about our traditional knowledge. More we learn about our culture, more we can develop by using this knowledge.

India is a country with a very rich traditional heritage. Traditional knowledge (TK) is knowledge, know-how, skills and practices that are developed, sustained and passed on from generation to generation within a community, often forming part of its cultural or spiritual identity. To instil confidence in society about our traditional knowledge and practices the followings can be done- 1. Students can be taught Vedic Mathematics in school, it will not only help them solve math fast, but also with help them gain confidence on the traditional practices of our country. 2.The students should be taught regional languages along with Hindi in schools 3. Before the starting of any chapter in any subject like Science or Math, a brief Indian history should be provided on that chapter. 4. Scientific technologies used in ancient India and their efficiency levels can be explained. 5. They should be asked to do a case study on the technology adopted by ancient India related to their chapter.
