Tribal development forms the foundation for the economic growth of a nation which carries with it a substantial portion of the tribal population. Supporting the native tradition is the key to building a strong community and a healthy economy. With 8% of the population of India belonging to the Scheduled Tribe it becomes critical for the government to safeguard their interest and promote their livelihood. TRIFED the Government of India established organization, supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has been a security net for the tribes across the nation for over 30 years now. It has taken several initiatives for socio-economic welfare and empowerment of tribal communities through capability building, marketing, distribution, packaging, and other supporting activities.

Inhabiting the remotest parts of the country and being reserved, poses several problems for the community as well as the government in assisting their growth

• Dwelling in the Natural Habitat they carry a wealth of knowledge in plants, forest produces as well as ancient herbs, which is tantamount to that of an expert. With efficient support, this can be developed further to generate significant income for the community
• There has been an increase in the rate of unemployment among schedule tribes in the past few years owing to the lack of connection to the mainstream market
• Despite having been given reservations by the central government, residing in rural areas have posed difficulty for them in making the most of the benefits offered
• Members of the tribal community have made noteworthy contributions to the nation right from our struggle for freedom to the field of Healthcare, Education, and Technology. This shows that the community holds the potential to thrive under proper guidance

Taking the aforesaid points into consideration, TRIFED has committed itself to ensuring the all-around welfare of the Indian tribes. This is not limited to just inculcating entrepreneurial skills among them or having built an exclusive brand “Tribes India” for them but extends to establishing Van DhanKendras, providing awareness about vaccination for Covid, providing vocational training, and organizing Trade Fairs on a massive scale. The recent decision to observe the 15th November-the birth anniversary of tribal icon BirsaMunda as “Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas” is praiseworthy and TRIFED would unveil The National Tribal Festival “Aadi Mahotsav” on the following day to commemorate it. This festival is not only a platform for the tribal artisans to showcase their valuable skills but the revenue that it generates for the community is of utmost significance.

TRIFED under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi has been constantly pushing and coming up with reformed measures to realize the mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat by improving the quality of tribal produce, providing technological up-gradation, assisting in research & development and is now keen to see the suggestions of field experts, students, business leaders, social activists, subject-matter experts and all the contributors to this field in order to expedite its mission of economic development of Tribals.

As we mark the 75th year of India’s Independence we want you to have a greater stake in revolutionizing the tribal economy.

The last date to share your ideas and suggestions is 30th June, 2022

First all tribal people should get connected to an organisation created by the Government. Secured Membership or ID card to be given to these tribal people. Government should create a platform for these people to sell their products through shops. Without any middleman these tribal people can supply their products regularly to these shops or set up a stall where customers can go and buy these products. Government should insist al bigl Malls in cities to promote the tribal people products. They should give space to set up a stall and sell the products as per the price fixed by the Government. This will help the tribals to earn money and support their family. Alternatively Government can ask all State Governments across India to set up a stall or exhibitions exclusively to sell tribal products from various states in single place. They should get all facilities like pure drinking water, proper roads, shops education, medical facilities etc in their location. This will help them a lot

Tribals in our country have a rich heritage- right from medicine to various arts. To make sure their rich knowledge isn't lost, the government should make sure that the tribal elders are able to impart their precious knowledge to not only the next generations but to the world, by inviting them to various schools to conduct classes. The modern generation ought to be made aware of their rich heritage. The various tribes should be honoured regularly for imparting their knowledge and should be made to feel wanted by the rest of the country. By doing so, we can benefit simple ways of saving our lives by using the flora ingeniously grown plants and getting them patented before the western countries exploit them.

While all the on-going schemes for income and employment generation through other means remain active for tribal people, it is very desirable that they are enabled to supplement their income by their traditional activities and thereby also preserve their ties with their distinctive cultures. For this, they have to be replenished with the forest resources once possessed by them. It is impossible to return to them the original bounties. A target may be set to reclaim at least 10% of the original forest-land and bring the pattern of vegetation as close to the original as possible. Only faint memory remains of what the forests actually were before denudation began. It is important that the forest-service personnel form an idea of the degree of damage done, and for this they have to visit the last vestige of the virgin forest, if any, left in the tribal belts. Conservation and replenishment of forests have to be the foundation without which the phrase ‘robust tribal economy’ is meaningless.

Tribals live in remote areas and to reach every house to supply electricity becomes difficult. They normally live in huts with steep roofs to take care of monsoon & extreme weather conditions. For their livelihood they will need light, water, electricity to produce any products. Solar panels, wind turbine using industrial roof rotating ventilators with old car dynamos for 12 volts to light LED bulbs or by small wind mills.Depending on wind. If water streams are available small pelton wheel for hydel power. The idea is to have Eco friendly energy. Providing polycarbonate small roof sheets for day time light or night moon light. The idea of providing light by any of the above energy is to use skill in making articles & for their livelihood. Like solar energy if our scientist are able to create electricity from heat by burning waste wood or leaves it will be a boon to the country. As waste heat in any form can get converted to useful energy. These are all imaginary concepts.

So if we will discuss about to make tribal economically strong then all have to come forward. I had worked with some tribals for some project. I witnessed that only artists are showing their interest over this tribals products and some few shows interest in the products made by tribals. People think and argue for price related to items. But they can't even understand that the things made by hand is more expensive than the products made by machines. Where in second part government lack to promote it. How? So here I'll discuss how. Where government had banned polythene government missed the other part, government should have promoted the hand made bags then also government could have helped tribals in growing their economy. And advertising such could have helped, but sadly very few print media, digital media show it. Only very few news channel also show news on events organised to show or sell tribal products. So government and other digital media should come forward.
