My philately hobby started by seeing my friend in class 8th in 1984 and from then on whenever I used to get a new stamp I used to collect it from the cover which used to be the means of communication those days. It used to kindle me to find out more about the subject on the stamp which I got interested in History and also many other subjects covered by the postal department as a commemoration of special events and honouring famous personalities of the Indian Subcontinent. When ever I got a chance to travel abroad I collected the stamps and coins of that country. So, even today it is my precious collection.

Stamps collecting can be considered a popular hobby where people collect stamps of different Countries, politics, geographies and more. It is a way to learn about diverse topics, cultures, Countries, politics, History and currency from its stamps. Stamps are a treasure because if and when a stamp goes out of circulation, it gains in value. Stamps are silent but they have a language that is universal. A person can build a collection without expense.
Philately is the past time of collecting postage stamps as a hobby. Stamps are printed not only for daily use, but also for commemorative purposes such as our Independence Day, the Buddha Jayanti and our eminent leaders like Mahatma Gandhiji, Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Dr. B R Ambedkar. Stamps carry information like waterfalls, lakes, Art and Architecture, great men and their achievements. Stamps are used by the government to convey a message to the general public in promoting national Heritage.
