Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, in Karnataka State has been selected by the Ministry of Urban Development as one of the 100 smart cities to participate in the “Smart City” Challenge Stage-2 by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation was constituted in the year 1962 by combining two cities separated by a distance of 20 kilometers. This was a unique experiment in urban development history. The area of this Corporation is 202.3sq.kms, spread over 45 revenue villages. The population of the city as per the 1991 Census was 7 lakhs. The present population is nearly more than 9.43 lakhs. Under the Government of India Act of 1850, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal council was established on August 15, 1855.

Let’s join together to make Hubballi-Dharwad as a Smart City.

Hi all,I wish Manivannan sir for becoming once again mentor of development of HD.Since the Dharwad city is not so big and so the super market,The first thing which dwd wants is super market trade building in the same place and moving the vegetable market beside where now sawmills are there,govt has given lands to sawmills somewhere to move but they are not moving, sawmills producing lots of health problems to the local people, this plan is should be implemented immediately fortheprogress ofDWD.

Hai.First,thanks to the concerned people, who selected H D under smart city development.Now UGD & 24/7 water pipe line work is under construction.Once this is completed,HDMC should start plantation work of saplings on footpath wherever it is available. If not available create the same by removing encroachments & expanding the roadways.Future extensions must have this before granting permission to construct houses.Then cover the foot path with rain water harvesting procedure. concrete the roads.

Initiation of cleaning should be started from our home,then only we can clean the city and will be called a responsible citizen. Electrical vehicals should be introduced and electrical charging points should be made rather than usage of petrol to control pollution. Should use the slogan reduce, reuse, recycle. Jute bags should be used as they are eco friendly. Importantly,awareness must be created among people about the importance of cleanliness by some ppt presentations....

4) By-pass railway line should be constructed to avoid entry of goods trains into city railway stations. 5) Use of plastic and ghutka packets should be banned in HD. 6) For better connectivity start all trains going towards Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Tipupati, Hyderabad, Bijapur and Solapur from Dharwad and start all trains going towards Goa, Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi from Hubli.

I would like to add some more points, which I have missed out in my earlier submission (PDF file). 1) Authorities must construct undress pass roads/fly-over at all major junctions. 2) Separate under pass should be there at all junctions for pedestrians and physically disabled people. 3) All railway crossings in HD must be converted to ROB/RUB.

MULTI LEVEL MARKET COMPLEX--The Mahatma Gandhi Market is an eye sore and filthy. Thousands of people visit this market to procure their daily needs. They have no choice but to live through the dirty environment. It is surprising to see the helplessness of the merchants who spend any thing up to 12 hours in this filthy surroundings. There is already a blue print exists for MULTI STOREY marketing complex and the "Smart City Project" should adopt the project and execute it with urgency.

MULTI LEVEL PARKING-- The city is growing very fast and the vehicle population too is growing fast. This has resulted in frequent traffic jam and parking problems. conventional method of parking on one side of the road may not be workable in the near future. The Smart City Project must visualize the impending problem and should plan "Vertical Parking Spots" at Old Bus Stand, Akshya Park, Railway station, Keshwapur circle, Nav Nagar and Bankapur Chouk in HUBBALLI and in Dharwad.
