Recognising the universal appeal of Yoga, owing to its demonstrated benefits towards immunity building and stress relief, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 11th December 2014 proclaimed 21st June as the International Day of Yoga (IDY). Since 2015, this day has been observed to remind people across the globe about the benefits of Yoga and build public interest in Yoga by highlighting its importance and contributions to public health.
The preparations for the 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY2023) have already begun, and the Ministry of Ayush (MoA) is looking forward to active participation from the citizens.

Every year IDY is observed with a theme. The themes of the previous years are given below:

With this backdrop, MoA invites all citizens to share their ideas on how to observe the 9th IDY with a theme. Name the theme and describe how to celebrate this IDY keeping the theme in mind.

आदरणीय प्रधानमन्त्रीजी, सादर हरिस्मरण। योगशास्त्रों में कहा गया है कि योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः। अर्थात चित्तवृत्तियों का निरोध ही योग है। प्राचीन काल से ही योग को चित्तशुध्दि और चित्तवृत्ति-निरोध का उपाय माना गया है। आज के समय में जो नाना प्रकार के प्रदूषण हमारे चारों तरफ विद्यमान हैं, उसमें चित्त यानी चिंतन या कहिए मन का प्रदूषण सबसे ज्यादा घातक है। लोगों की महत्वकांक्षाएं और रोजमर्रा की परेशानियां इतनी बढ़ गई हैं कि वो लोगों के मनों को उनके विचारों को प्रदूषित करने लगी हैं। जीवन में सफलता पाने के लिए या अपना जीवन स्तर ऊँचा उठाने के लिए लोग गलत मार्ग पर भी चल दे रहे हैं। आदरणीय प्रधानमन्त्रीजी, योग निसंदेह मानसिक शांति देता है और शरीर को स्वस्थ रखता है। लेकिन शांति से उसे करने के लिए यह जरुरी है कि हमारी मूलभूत आवश्यकताएं पहले पूरी हों। भारत में जीविकोपार्जन की समस्या के बाद सबसे बड़ी चिंता स्वास्थ्य को लेकर होती है। भारत में इलाज महंगा है। आयुष्मान कार्ड सबके पास नहीं है और सब हास्पिटल उसे स्वीकार नहीं करते हैं। इस ओर सरकार को ध्यान देना चाहिए। जयहिंद। जय भारत।

9. 2023 Yoga for YOU Making ourselves a priority is the need of the hour. People are slogging at offices, working overtime, being sleep deprived and skipping meals. Work and commute to work is taking too much time out of the 24 hours we have in hand. People are unable to spend quality time with family and friends. Whenever they get a chance to rest, people prefer binge-watching TV/ OTT series or surfing the net instead of meditating, exercising or even stepping out in the sunlight to walk amidst nature. For those claiming not having time to work out, yoga is the answer. "Yoga for YOU" will help us put ourselves first. Our health, our peace of mind, our wellbeing. We will start loving ourselves. Weight loss, healthy lifestyle, organised mind, good habits and positive vibes around us are all added advantages we get free with yoga! Hence, yoga for you.
