Recognising the universal appeal of Yoga, owing to its demonstrated benefits towards immunity building and stress relief, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 11th December 2014 proclaimed 21st June as the International Day of Yoga (IDY). Since 2015, this day has been observed to remind people across the globe about the benefits of Yoga and build public interest in Yoga by highlighting its importance and contributions to public health.
The preparations for the 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY2023) have already begun, and the Ministry of Ayush (MoA) is looking forward to active participation from the citizens.

Every year IDY is observed with a theme. The themes of the previous years are given below:

With this backdrop, MoA invites all citizens to share their ideas on how to observe the 9th IDY with a theme. Name the theme and describe how to celebrate this IDY keeping the theme in mind.

celebrate International Yoga Day keeping the theme in mind, one can start by understanding the importance of mental health and how yoga can help in achieving it. The day can be celebrated by organizing a yoga session which includes a combination of yoga postures, breathing exercises, meditation and relaxation techniques. This session can be conducted in various places such as parks, community centers, etc. to encourage more people to join in. Along with this, some talks on the importance of mental health and how yoga can help in keeping it in check can also be organized In addition to this, one can spread awareness about the importance of yoga and its benefits to mental health through social media and other mediums. Yoga challenges, competitions, etc. can also be organized to promote yoga and make it more accessible to people. Lastly, one can also make use of the day to practice

Theme for IDY 2023 "Connecting to Nature - Celebrating Unity through Yoga" while keeping the theme in mind, one could 1. Host a nature-themed yoga retreat to connect with nature and celebrate unity. 2. Host an outdoor yoga session in a local park or other natural setting. 3. Use yoga and meditation to create a sacred space for people to come together and celebrate unity. 4. Organize a yoga and meditation retreat specifically focused on connecting to nature and celebrating unity. 5. Create a yoga and meditation program to use as a bridge to connect people to nature. 6. Invite local yoga teachers to lead classes or workshops focused on connecting to nature and celebrating unity. 7. Invite local artists to design special yoga-inspired art pieces that celebrate IDY 2023. 8. Hold a yoga-inspired festival featuring local musicians and artists to celebrate IDY 2023. 9. Encourage people to share stories, photographs and poems about their experiences connecting with nature to inspire others.
