As we are sentimental and religious people and it is difficult to stop people to throw worship ingredients/dead bodies in rivers. Solution to this can be done by providing alternates to dispose of all such things by : 1.Preparing artificial ponds with in city or nearby river bank, later on same can be dispose off by chemicals 2.Small furnace/boilers Allow for private participation in this which will create the business also. There is no need to clean Ganga by spending crores of rupees of public money,but the easiest way to keep clean Ganga are by stopping following activities which are without monetary involvement: 1.Stop discharging city as well as industrial discharges to Ganaga 2.Stop allow throwing dolls, arati chemicals and other worship ingredients at Ganaga 3. Stop burning and throwing dead bodies at Ganga. 4. Enforce laws and monitor to control above activities. 5. Hope we all sensible Indians know all

It surprises me that we are talking about cleaning Ganga when we have not educated our citizen about the environment and provided no infrastructure for the sewage and industrial discharge collection for many cities located near Ganga. All the small industries and sanitary disposal are still taking place close to the coast of Ganga. Govt regulator should visit all the industries that are operated in Howrah district and should examine where the industry disposal is taking place.

देश के संतों से यदि आग्रह करें कि वे अपने अनुयायियों से कहें कि गंगा में अस्थियां विसर्जित करने की जगह गंगा के किनारे अपने प्रियजनों की अस्थियों को मिट्टी में दबाकर यदि उस पर वृक्ष लगायें तो गंगा भी पवित्र बनी रहेगी और उस वृक्ष के रूप में उनके प्रियजन भी जीवित रहकर सभी को अपने आशीर्वाद स्वरूप प्राणवायु देते रहेंगें।

Water ways can be auctioned for the purpose of passenger and goods traffic. The bottled ganga water can also be sold to earn revenue. Municipalities can also purify and use gray water for the purpose of boat traffic inside city.

Once made navigable and maintained Big rivers can also serve as air ports for amphibious vehicles/planes. The load on railway system may also be some what realesed. at some places Water crafts serve as better bridges then constructing a permanent bridge on roads. Stable water bodies can also serve the purpose of boat housing which is also a cheap alternative in comparison to Pmt. houses. We have to devlop all things at once. ONce it is started A lot of new jobs sustaining on water will devlop.

Maintaining waterways will serve three purposes. One for irrigation, IInd for hydel power and third for traffic. For keeping waterways navigable we have to make huge number of water bodies fortunately available all over India Which in turn will enhance their local eco system . The effect of maintaining waterways is whole some. The problem of floods can also be tackled. I think top priority should be given to this only.
