Topic:- Interlinking of indian rivers In India rainfall is highly variable both temporarily and spatially. Nearly 80% of the annual rainfall approx 4000 billion cubic meter is received only during 4 months period June to September monsoon season.As a result of floods and droughts are common and every year some parts of the country suffer due to either of these. Some river basins have excess water as compared to the needs leading to flooding , water logging etc. Where as other just donot have enough water even to need their present needs. The excessive flood water during monsoon needs to be channelised, conserved and utilized during period of scarcity for drinking, irrigation, power generation and industrial use. Floods are natural hazards that occur all over the India causing damage to life , cropses and property.
