Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, in Karnataka State has been selected by the Ministry of Urban Development as one of the 100 smart cities to participate in the “Smart City” Challenge Stage-2 by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

Smart city concept should be a smart way of managing resources with minimum burden on common man through effective execution and transparent practices. The active participation of educational institutes should provide the momentum to drive this initiative on the basis on involving student-Faculty groups to exhibit their managerial and technical prowess.

Any solution towards smart city must necessarily focus on basic civic and transport amenities. This can be realized through effective Public transport mechanism and minimum usage of private vehicles through concepts of car-pooling. The citizens should respect the saying "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" in word and full spirit to make our Hubballi-Dharawad city more clean and lively.
