Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

proper auction of kiosks and railway caterers in the stations be done alongwith reasonable parking spaces so as to generate adequate revenue develop the railway retiring rooms which be alloted to bonafide travellers and be outsourced to a civil hospitality agency for better services and occupancy and adequate generation of revenues

१. रेलगाड़ी और प्लेटफार्म में एडवरटाइजिंग को बढावा देना चाहिए २. स्टेशन की पार्किंग को ऑनलाइन करना होगा ३. प्लेटफ़ॉर्म पर मॉल और होटल बनाने चाहिए

Non-Fare sources of revenue 1. Railway Quarters esp. at Hill Stations/tourist spots can be converted to a Hotel Chain for its customers. 2. Commercial Parking Spaces can be made available at all the railway stations. esp at cities. 3. Recreational Party-Halls can be created & rented out at the stations. 4. Under-ground shopping malls can be created at railway Sheds (Train maintenance center) 5. Tvs for Advertisement (without sound) can be place inside compartments.

Give space to Private developers inside Railway stations, places which are rotting with garbage and encroachment, remove the trash and let these developers develop world class shopping malls, eateries and Movie theaters so that waiting passengers can spend some time there and also earn railways good rent out of these places. These places will always issue bills which will in turn earn govt revenue and give people jobs.

To increase the revenue of Railways over a period of time, I think you should salvage the unused rail Iron, objects which are not used, scrap which are piled up near railway tracks which are rusting. This will make railway land clean (Swatchh Bharat), Give money to railways, Make use of these rail Iron bars to lay new lines, free up space, make railways more systematic.

Food and Beverages are available at very lower rates in trains as compared to open market. You may please offer two types of food/beverages options to all passengers. It may work like if the railway catering contractors get opportunity to offer food at various rates they may offer more money to railways.
