Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation has been ranked first among 12 cities selected for implementing Smart City project in Tamil Nadu and is gaining momentum to get shortlisted in the final round of Smart City Challenge where 20 cities would be selected in the first year.

The vibrant citizens of Tiruchirappalli are requested to post their views pertaining to municipal and city’s basic infrastructure such as water supply, electricity, sanitation, waste management, transport, parking, energy,housing, IT solutions,safety and security. Residents are encouraged to give their ideas and suggestions at city level as well as local area level solutionsin Tiruchirappalli.

Let us join hands together in making Tiruchirappalli a global Smart City!

Trichy has numerous institutes however the mechanical industry sector is dying. Most of BHEL by-products were outsourced to North India leaving Trichy resident jobless. Major Companies like TSRM, Chethar & Kaveri are all closed. No major companies other than BHEL which was commissioned 50 yrs. ago, needs big investments in Mechanical & Manufacturing industries. Auto giant companies like Ford, Fiat and Hyundai should be encouraged to start ancillary unit in Trichy.

Preventing Sand Mining & look for an alternate for house construction.Sand mining generates extra vehicle traffic, which negatively impairs the environment. Where access roads cross riparian areas, the local environment may be impacted.Sand mining also affects the adjoining groundwater system and the uses that local people make of the river.

IT/ITES need to be expanded rigorously to increase the income of the city which will add fuel to other initiatives. SEZ should function to its fullest and more number of SEZs should get started. Trichy is well connected by means of Road, Rail & Air. Steps need to be taken to attract IT giants to start their business in trichy which will help to tap the human potentials in the right way. This will keep the trichy people back in their places along with their family rather than moving out for jobs.

School/college students should be taught to grow their own food(i.e) internship for agriculture under a renowned farmer or government institutions. Proper disposal and recycling of plastic should be made strict. Usage of plastic bags should be banned. Grocery shops mistook the non usage of plastic bags and they charge for the carry bags. Speed limit monitors should be introduced in the city along with a smart fine system which will definitely bring down the number of accidents.

Smart pollution free buses that runs on batteries can be introduced. A proper filtration system for drinking water should be introduced in order to improve the healthy lifestyle of people. Infrastructure of Telecom need to be improved. We have enough number of population using internet but the services provided by the Telecom domains are not up to the mark. Rain water harvesting should be made strict and compulsory and shouldn't be an eye wash.

A smart city which is smart in all aspects with overall utilization percentage. We have enough number of educational institutions but we don't have enough job opportunities. We have enough water sources but no proper system to utilize it without any wastage. Usage of solar energy need to be implemented in large scale. Namma toilets are doing a great job and we need to increase the numbers in order to make the city more hygienic and they should reach the downtrodden.
