Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation has been ranked first among 12 cities selected for implementing Smart City project in Tamil Nadu and is gaining momentum to get shortlisted in the final round of Smart City Challenge where 20 cities would be selected in the first year.

The vibrant citizens of Tiruchirappalli are requested to post their views pertaining to municipal and city’s basic infrastructure such as water supply, electricity, sanitation, waste management, transport, parking, energy,housing, IT solutions,safety and security. Residents are encouraged to give their ideas and suggestions at city level as well as local area level solutionsin Tiruchirappalli.

Let us join hands together in making Tiruchirappalli a global Smart City!

UNCONTROLLABLE TRAFFIC (2) If properly managed it may not take more than 10 to 15 minutes to cover the same distance. Everywhere the Signal and Police People were controlling the Traffic. But the traffic was moving inch by inch. This is not acceptable for the Smart City. Following are the reasons and suggestions: 1. At Thiruvani koil Signal Junction, the SriRangam Traffic should be given First priority and clear as quick as possible.

UNCONTROLLABLE TRAFFIC (1) While going to Amma Mandapam, Sri Rangam I did not find any difficulties. But, after visiting I returned through Sri Rangam Railway Fly Over. While coming down from the bridge, suddenly all the vehicles stopped and were not moving for few minutes. It took 15 minutes to come to the Thiruvanai Koil Main road. After that it took another 15 minutes to cross the Mambala Salai. It took total of 30 minutes to come back to Chathiram Bus Stand Area.

SRIRANGAM AND AMMA MANDAPAM (3) There were Police people all around. That is good. While taking bath, one should be very careful; because the stones in the water are very slippery. Municipality should make arrangement to clean and keep it as good as possible. Under smart City Project this also to be taken care and make Amma Mandapam a WORLD CLASS BATHING GHAT (place).

SRIRANGAM AND AMMA MANDAPAM (2) Amma Mandapam, the ritual and bathing place in River Kaveri. Thousands of people visit the place during festival seasons (new moon – amavasya days). While taking bath people leave the cloths on the river and on the steps. There is no person to remove and keep in the right place. There are 2 / 3 municipal workers around that place and doling different jobs. It requires at least 10 workers to take care and clean the area during festival days.

SRIRANGAM AND AMMA MANDAPAM On 12-10-2015 (Mahalaya Amavasya day) I visited Sri Rangam and Amma Mandapam. Ranganathar Temple is visited by locals and International Visitors. The condition in front of the temple is not appreciable. The Gopuram looks gigantic, but the road and the surroundings look so bad which requires immediate attention. Under Smart City Project this also should be taken care.

(Contd/) 12.De-congest Rock-fort. Shift crowded malls to spacious area; present set-up dangerous as fire accidents will cause havoc. Plan for these too by thinking through expected problematic areas.( present and future)13. Pilgrims suffer due to paucity of sign-boards in other languages. Think about it. 14. All other problems like waste-disposals, absence of drainage, sewage-lines etc are well-known to be retold here.15. Think of 3 tiers- 1.Trichy corpn. & its laborers; 2. Public & 3.Govts.

(Contd/)7. Absence of shady trees on major roads is a drawback.Roads widening must go along with new appropriate variety of shady-avenue trees.8. There is no water problem.But, plan for next 50 years now itself.9. MSME needs hand-holding; hence talk to them.10 Many roads need widening. 11. Yatrinivas started at SriRangam is unapproachable; no public-transport!Huge wastage of money. Why spread resources thin? Take min. of projects & finish ALL in time-bound manner.Then, Go for the next. [repeat]

(Contd/-) 4. The central bus-stand can be shifted near Chennai highway by swap of land with Defence ministry. This should cater to needs of a growing city for min. 50 years.( In fact, whatever is done under Smart-city,should have time-scale of 50 years & more)5. Introduce share-autos in areas uncovered by buses. Autos are costly. Now, Tiruchy is retired-men's paradise!Make cheaper transport available.6. THIS city needs all three formats viz. green-field Plus Redevelopment Plus Retrofits.

1. In Srirangam, a half-finished road widening project is kept pending. WHY? It is harassment to public. Take 5 projects and finish ALL, not 50 and keep all half-finished. It will surely create bad opinion on Govt. 2. Tiruchy is at Centre of TN. So, Govt. needs to think of projects that will last at least till start of year 2045. 3. I read, Smart-city projects classified as , 1.Green-field.2. Retrofit and 3. Redevelopment. Why such water-tight classification, as Tiruchy needs all three.
