TRAI Invites Suggestions for Consultation Paper on Allotment of spectrum to Indian Railways for Public Safety and Security services

Department of Telecommunications (DoT) through their letter dated 27th February 2019 has informed that Indian Railways has proposed to install an Ultra-high-speed LTE based communication corridor along their network for Train-Ground and Train-Train communication. In this connection Indian Railways has requested DoT to reserve 15 MHz of spectrum in 700 MHz band for the purpose and to begin with 10 MHz to be allocated free of cost as the proposal is devoid of any commercial gain, but only for enhancing security and passenger amenities. Through the said letter, DoT has also requested TRAI to provide recommendations on administrative allotment of spectrum to Indian Railways and the quantum, price, appropriate frequency band (including 450-470 MHz band) and any other related issue.

A Consultation Paper on “Allotment of Spectrum to Indian Railways for Public Safety and Security Services” has been released to discuss the issues involved. Written comments on the issues raised in the Consultation Paper are invited from the stakeholders by 22nd July 2019 and counter-comments by 5th August 2019.

indian railways have their own Railtel network, the backone is based on fibre cable laid along the length of the railway lines. railways should install wifi hotspots at each railway station which has a very high range , which will enable them as well as the common public to access high speed internet at cheap rate and this will also increase the earning of railways.

It is good idea to improve the speed and connectivity has also improved other places in andhrapradesh so many railway projects are pending immediately grant because we are giving more profits to railways but there is nobimprovement has no speed trains and metro trains high speed technology on all trains and improve railway lines also to start at remote villages railways.

A spectrum should issue to railway which enhence the capability of railway and railway will serve the nation more effectively, Create a big platform like Facebook, provide all information regarding railway through it, connect it and sync it to passenger's aadhar card ,when passenger will do reservation. connect this platform to all police stations, hospitals,hotels,and to each and every district collector's office.

Firstly we need to design better trains/coaches. Internationally,the trains arevery comfortable and smooth. We need to strive for quality and charge accordingly. Spectrum allotments can wait. First build world class stations and trains. Please ensure there is full occupancy and a steady revenue stream. Stop ticketless travel and reduce the baggage allowed on trains. Make Indian railways world class. That is more important. People will learn to pay for quality and good service

The bigger question is - what value could this dedicated spectrum add to IR? Could it allow IR to build business models that help improve train services - passenger or cargo; could IR offer user-paid value added services such as WiFi and info-tainment across its network nationally? Could the spectrum utilise smart SDN capabilities of 4 or 5G technologies to improve train/network performance via data sharing & advanced analytics? Or could this be a backup infra for national security.

Good working vigilant camera in every coach and proper monitoring can help a lot.....Immediate action only can safeguard people.. Tremendous change should come in biometrics...like by issuing travel cards by which tracking of passengers and spotting of crime becomes so simple and this can avoid the long queues in ticket counters as well.
