Teach the importance of conservation to children on whom the future of this planet rests. Need to conserve, ways of conservation,hands-on practice at home and outside should be taught from school level. Also, citizens should car pool to work, not ride solo in gas-guzzling cars, use energy saving devices. A simple rule of switching off lights and fans before leaving a room will reap rich rewards. Each individual must learn to be aware and be committed. This should be a collective responsibility.

This is an Idea i came up with while looking up at me ceiling fan. I currently reside in Mumbai. Trains are one of the most used transportation method in Mumbai. I was considering the idea of putting up mini wind mills like Rutland 504 mini turbine or may be bigger ones all along the tracks of the local trains. The speed with which the trains travel will help these fans move, in turn generate energy which could be used for lighting up the stations.Over 2000 trains run through Mumbai everyday.

The first thing to do is to remove the subsidies on diesel and other fossil fuels gradually to channelise the funds towards subsidising the energy efficiency technologies as well as all renewable energy technologies. Only when the government stops treating the subsidies on fossil fuels as money to buy votes to stay in power that one can hope for real change.

Ensure that all street lamps/ road lamps/ Traffic Signals are solar powered and don't draw power from the main grid. This way we an save on the huge power demand on non-renewable resources. Encourage green buildings & provide concessions to green builders. Provide heavy subsidies/financial benefits to green power sources and also to companies investing/utilizing green power. Short Term loss will be significantly high, but long term profits will be huge which will outweigh the losses.

Street lights are mostly manually operated. Installation of light sensors paves way for an automatic operation - On, with fading light & off, with the rising sun. The power supply lines are currently are differentiated as domestic & industrial lines. But, in this era of electronics, parallel (lesser) voltage supply lines need to be thought of. This is because most of the electronics (laptops, mobiles etc) run with much lesser power than the other domestic appliances (fridges, geysers etc).
