Current GST and Suggested Increase Currently, plastic plates are taxed at 18% GST in India. A higher GST slab, such as 28% or more, could make plastic plates significantly more expensive and less attractive for mass usage.

Align with Global Sustainability Goals Many countries are taking measures to reduce plastic waste as part of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). High GST on plastic products aligns with these objectives. Encourage Behavioral Change Higher costs due to increased GST would force businesses and individuals to rethink their consumption patterns and prioritize sustainable products.

Dear Modi ji Sub : Impose High GST on plastic plates mposing a high GST on plastic plates can be a strategic move to address environmental concerns while promoting sustainable alternatives. Environmental Impact Plastic plates are single-use items that contribute significantly to pollution and waste. They are non-biodegradable and often end up in landfills, waterways, and oceans, harming wildlife and ecosystems. Promote Sustainable Alternatives A high GST rate on plastic plates would discourage their usage and push consumers and businesses to adopt eco-friendly alternatives like paper, bamboo, or biodegradable plates.

hile removing GST on health and life insurance policies would make them more accessible and affordable, it has significant implications for government revenue. A balanced approach—like reducing GST rates, targeted exemptions, or offering tax rebates—might be a more realistic and effective solution.

inancial Relief During Crisis In times of health crises like COVID-19, insurance becomes even more critical. Removing GST on premiums would ease the financial strain on families and promote greater adoption of health insurance. Boost Preventive Healthcare With affordable premiums, more people may adopt health insurance, indirectly reducing the burden on public healthcare systems by encouraging preventive care and timely treatment.

Government’s Push for Universal Coverage The government is promoting schemes like Ayushman Bharat and encouraging private health insurance. Removing GST aligns with the goal of achieving universal health coverage. For life insurance, it complements government efforts to promote financial security for families.

Health and Life Insurance as Essential Services Health and life insurance are not luxury services; they are essential financial tools to protect families against unforeseen events like illness, accidents, or death. Taxing such essential services might discourage people from purchasing adequate coverage.

Dear Modi ji Sub : Remove the GST on Life and Health Insurance policies The idea of removing GST on health and life insurance policies has been a topic of debate and discussion for a long time. Encourage Insurance Penetration India has a relatively low insurance penetration rate compared to developed countries. Removing GST on life and health insurance could make policies more affordable, encouraging more people to secure coverage. This would particularly benefit middle- and lower-income groups, for whom premiums are already a financial burden.
