Every year 27th September is celebrated as World Tourism Day. This year the theme of World Tourism Day is Tourism and Rural Development. Tourism helps rural communities hold onto their unique natural and cultural heritage, supporting conservation projects, including those safeguarding endangered species, lost traditions or flavours. Tourism has proven to be a lifeline for many rural communities. The sector is not just a leading source of employment, particularly for women and youth but it also provides opportunities for territorial cohesion and socio-economic inclusion for even the most remote regions.
Our villages and the people who live there are a true custodians and manifestation of our culture.
As we work towards more sustainable development of our country, developing related hard and soft infrastructure and promoting tourism in rural India is much required.

Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with MyGov invites you to share your views ideas on Rural India- How it can leverage tourism.

Help rural youth to establish villege retreats. There must be something to attract visitors, it could be natural elements like large waterbody, jungle, river with some kind of activities like fishing, boating or jungle trail walking. It could be based on local handicrafts, there could be workshops to give the visitors some first hand experience in the handicrafts. These are just few ideas to attract tourists but this needs to be backed by good road connectivity, reliable power supply and network

The village just needs to be promoted like a village. Our village just needs to be good tourism promotions. People need to be introduced to the importance of the village and its beauty and simplicity. Just look at the magic.

Today people in urban spaces surrounded by constant news feed, feel the need for digital detox and time in the nature's lap. This can be provided by our Rural India, like the Homestays at various tourist sites. We should be promoting vocational activities in these villages so that tourist can enjoy hands on experience.

Tourism can only promote in rural pockets of India By several steps 1. Sanitation {Need to reduce unhygienic pockets in village}, 2. Security {policing & volunteer at village level}, 3. Reduce technological gap {proper access of Internet & electricity}, 4. Proper health care facilities {primary health care improvement}, 5. Place for staying like guest house for travellers {community hall can be use for this}, 6.Connect village with NH, Airport, Railway Station, Ports, Hospitals etc
