Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

Please make Pedestrian-Path on all roads free from encroachments. It is very important due to following reasons:- It greatly reduces the suffering of school children, women & senior-citizens, who are today forced to walk in the middle of the roads due to the encroachments of Pedestrian-Path and parking of vehicles on sides of the roads. People will love to walk and in turn it reduces the pollution. The image of city goes positive among foreigners, who witness a clean & safe Pedestrian-Path.

Quality of Life and Infrastructure should be the major goals for smart city.Below are important points for smart city. 1. Land should not be sold, until below connections are given. Infrastructure should be planned first and then people should be allowed to populate. a. Drainage / Sewage b. Road C. Electricity. 2. Chandigarh model of Blocks and Perpendicular Roads should be taken. 3. All roads should be planned minimum 40 Ft and 10 Ft for cycle lane.

Mostly automation, less interaction with Gov and have more internet based certifications and approvals. To get proper metrics to analysis future directions. use of more smart Cards.

Patch way to cycle, and usable subways to all people to cross roads. ID for each trees and proper process before Cut any Trees.

When we create modern Cities we cut trees and put concrete... But my expectation for Smart cities is to have 30% Green trees. Its a minimum % to live humans.

3) Encroachments exist on almost all main roads. Without any bias, they must be removed. 4) For size of Chennai city, the no. of vehicles (2,4 wheedlers) are a nightmare. Either stop Registering new vehicles temporarily till a solution or increase the fees ten times as a deterrent. 5) Involve city schools and colleges in traffic management

Corporation of Chennai must have a strong will first to become and then to sustain as a Smart City. Assuming that such will power exists, my suggestions: 1) Top priority for cleanliness: No garbage bins flowing on roads and also nobody living/spoiling the "so called" platforms (opp to CMDA Towers in Egmore is an example). 2) There are numerous "eateries" on either side of any main road. They are simply too many. They make a lot of food wastage and also responsible for essential price rise.

Stop deforestation. Plant trees for every 10 feet and give them to each person, whoever is interested. It should be their responsibility to take care of it.

Effective use of CCTVs, particularly in crowded areas and public transport, and specially-designed apps along with the physical presence of male and female police officers in vulnerable areas, are a must.
