Universal number like 911 in the US must be made available, connected to the PCR that would further direct the appropriate agency to respond. A grid of CCTV cameras strategically spread over the entire city (possibly via a PPP model) would be monitored round-the-clock from the PCR and the use of specially-designed apps can also help cell phone users contact the PCR on a real-time basis, all the while being tracked through GPS.

Police are expected to provide ‘smart policing’ for which they will have to adopt many best practices like webbased system for filing of complaints and FIRs, a mobile application for distress assistance, a webbased court cases monitoring system and e-challans for traffic offences

All city roads at least main roads are to be relaid with suitable alternate material so that they with stand the rains and there after no one shouid be allowed to dig for what ever reasons whether EB or Telecom or water & sewerage etc. I have seen in Manhattan tunnels below the roads with access from surface for maintenance without any necessity to dig or damage the roads. With no scope for widening the main roads in the city, suggest to lay elevated roads like in Bangkok city double capacity

Roadside mud, silt, dust are brought by tyres of all vehicles during rainy season, stays near medians on road. During hot days it flies with wind along with vehicles speed, gets into clothes, we carry home to wash, with nostrils to lungs, with eyes to the sight, mixed with biowaste in chappals, to carry home infection.
During rain mud and silt comes again to center, lying for months till we carry, it is finished,,
Sometimes it gets into draining canals blocking the drain.
Remove roadside silt

A pedestrian focused city has a lot more advantage like improved health of the citizens. The same can also help us in addressing diseases like diabetes.

The profile of the ordinary policemen in Smart Cities will have to change, including the recruitment of more qualified personnel. The training methods and technology available to them will have to be cutting edge for which tie ups with leading cyber security agencies will have to be made at an institutional level.

The city corporation would look for initiatives such as awareness programmes and grievance redressal systems. In reality, it is an issue of issues, like poorly-lit streets that give a chance to eve-teasers; poor internet coverage that leads to messages/ alerts not sent on time, among others. Hence, as a Smart City initiative, the City Leader will consider an integrated and holistic approach and not look at it through the prism of one department alone.
