Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th November, 2015.

Rain water storage and improve ground water I am a daily traveller from Chormpet to Thoraipakkam. Both sides of this road are having small lakes. In the summer months it’s all dried up. It would be great if these lakes water capacity can be increased by deepening them so more amount of water can be stored in these lakes which will eventually increase the ground water level and even you can pump water to other locations where there is scarcity.

My suggestion for draining rain water on roads to the ground by providing BORE PITS COVERED WITH PVC PIPES OF 6 INCHES DIA TO A DEPTH OF 50 TO 60 FT. AT CERTAIN IDENTIFIED PLACES WHERE RAIN WATER TENDS TO STAGNATE. INSIDE PVC PIPES, PEBBLES OR MEDIUM SIZED BLUE STONES COVERED WITH POLYTHENE FILTERS AT GROUND LEVEL. THIS WILL INCREASE WATER TABLE EVEN WITH SMALL RAINS. WE CAN TRY IN NORTH CHENNAI ROADS TO START WITH BEFORE THE CURRRENT YEAR'S MONSOON DURING OCT/NOV 2015

At present City roads are flooded with rain water even for a small spell of rain. This leads to stagnation of rain water on the road resulting in traffic jams, damages to roads etc. The stagnation of rain water on roads can be reduced considerably by draining it naturally to the ground itself : 1 by providing on either side of the roads BORE PITS covered with PVC pipes of 6 inches dia to a depth of 50 - 60 ft. at certain identified places where rain water tend to stagnate. Inside the p

This smart city concept should not be allowed to swindle/swollow public money, by the civic authorities in the name of development. It should not be novel way of corruption.

If any complaint is lodged on the civic official, it has to be directly linked to his personal file. If more complaints are received against the same official, investigation has to be carried out by the investigation official from DVAC of their own.

Let the Government create address of each house/portion of house with electronic code (similar to email ids). This can be easily traced/tracked if there is any unauthorised portion/illegal usage of premises for other than residential purpose etc. Let these address be open for everyone living in that area to see and lodge any complaint if there is any illegal activity is going on, other than the usage for which licence was/is given. These corrupt officials take money and shy away.

Fix responsibility on civic officials. Utilize the IT students in evolving a system that some kind of software is developed so that each and activity of any specific area is monitored. This will put the civic officials on their toes. The main problem with any civic issue is the attitude of the officials who get their pension during their service itself. This must be brought to an end else. Developing smart city of Chennai is like cleaning Cooum River.
