Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

Integrated House Plan --------------------------- 1. many people are not aware of green homes and how to design it. 2. publish more policy and innovative models to the public to adapt green home. may be some subsidy will attract more. 3. like solar panel, rain water harvesting by filtering dirts from rain to an underground tank and re-use on summer or as grey water. 4. solar panel as a roof tent in terrace. park bench under tent to refresh an organic garden and etc.

Oxygen Contamination -------------------- 1. Lesser the oxygen lesser the growth of human structure. like Antediluvian era, where more oxygen bigger humans. 2. Chennai has more human but lesser trees and lesser oxygen to breath. 3. rather than planting trees, try innovative product that will convert CO2 to Oxygen. 4. make each building minimum plot area as 1 ground (2400 sqft) as mandatory. High Construction cost will make to construct small house leaving land to grow trees.

Green Transport ---------------- 1. Add separate lane for Cycle, Bus from other commutators which will provide friendly shift to green transport. 2. capture traffic violators by automated cammeras to contain traffic. 3. add a smarter bus shelter with gps system and display to update the nearing bus and next bus for the given destination. 4. all bus to have display to show time to destination calculations based on distance and traffic. 5. try battery/solar/hydrogen operated transport.

sirs, the challenge before us in making chennai a smart city is the polluted river beds.to doaway this problem one has to stop the polluted water from mixing into the rivers,seas. this can be done by filtering the water that is yet to drained WITH CHARCOAL at the MOUTH OF THE point where such polluted water mixes with either the rivers or the sea. Filtration can also be done at the place of origin of such contaminated water can also be done at one or more places along the path

The 'Gated Community' type of residential projects may be treated as the recommended pattern for residential housing projects so that water supply, sewage, electricity, and roads within the 'colony' can be made the responsibility of the respective developers/collective owners and the Corporation can concentrate on constructing and maintaining only the main lines.

Government schools should be given a 'facelift' in terms of improving the infrastructural facilities thus encouraging large student enrolment from all income groups.

..Best practices are to be adopted in storm water drainage systems so as to meet the challenges faced by urbanites residing in the low lying areas and also to effectively manage transportation during times of natural calamities. ..Building approvals to be sanctioned only if the construction is disaster resistant and strict compliance to the same has to be checked.

The smartest outcomes can be achieved through the intelligent application of basic technologies. For example, the single most important ingredient in a smart transport system is walking, the most basic of technologies. All public transport systems are based on walking the first and last mile – yet, walkability is totally ignored in Indian urban design.

This same venture of seeking suggestions for a Smart City can be taken to a higher level by inviting interested and capable citizens to generate realistic 3D virtual visualizations of infrastructural developments. As a step towards facilitation design centers may be provided with computer equipment and subscription to state of the art software like 3DSMAX or similar cloud based SAS offerings. Chennai has a strong talent pool for this kind of sophisticated planning and design activity.
