Smart Urban Mobility Services is important in a smart city since its an integrated application that would allow registered users to not only plot public transport routes, but to also estimate the savings, as well as health and fitness gains from walking or cycling part of the journey, and the contribution toward cleaner city air created by the resultant reduction in carbon emissions.

Cloud computing is much more than data storage or scalability of network. Efficient technologies will also dramatically bring down acquisition costs of software and applications. For instance, if a conference is hurriedly convened with a partner at a faraway area, the virtual meeting service can be easily organised regardless of the location in a secure network

Modeled on the Jarvis Plan in California initiated several years back, total population voting on matters of interest to residents can be set up at each ward/division of the Corporation. This is possible in Chennai with the currently available technology.

• Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can be well utilised as important tools so as to bring about better connectivity between the urbanites and the governmental agencies. This would again necessitate developing user friendly mobile applications in respect of transport system, electricity, water supply and sanitation, waste management, housing etc in order to improvise the better usage of the ICT tools by a wide spectrum of Chennaites which would make Chennai as the ‘smart' city.

• Organising periodical meetings with the planning authorities, metro water, transport department as well as Fire services department (DF&RS) by the civic bodies to strictly adhere to the regulations, guidelines and certain amendments made for compliance then and there. While doing so, the managerial capacity of those departments shall be better utilised for augmenting further improvement of the civic facilities, such as on time removal of garbage, eradicating mosquito breeding points etc.

In the fast evolving education system, it will be normal to take a break from college, become an apprentice, acquire skills and experience, and then rejoin college a few years later to finish an updated course. It will be possible to combine seemingly unrelated courses such as nuclear physics and liberal arts
