Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

SCSD – Smart City/Citizen service desks:- Create service desks for issues/requests/queries from citizens and measure agencies on service levels. Publish these results on the web and drive accountability for the individual authorities.

eForums:- Create web enabled forums for 2 way communication between citizens and public authorities at various levels starting with streets/ward.all the way to the city level. Use this to collect and address feedback and for complaints/grievances redressal

Protecting the pavements Several localities in Chennai including rich and middle class neighborhoods face the problem of encroachment of the pavement by house ramps extending to the pavement / pavements being cordoned off by residents to grow their own private garden. In commercial localities, shops and establishments use it for parking / stocking their wares. Implement an app where we can report such violations. This will help protect the pedestrians and also ensure a healthy walking culture

Chennai Corporation / CMDA – easier access the building plans to proactively report violations Currently Chennai Corporation / CMDA hosts the approved building plans of all new approvals on their website. But you can search that only using the Building Plan approval number which only the owner knows. Allowing citizens to search for the building plans by street name, all years / specific year, will help citizens become whistle blowers and ensure that they can report violations

IntroduceOnline RTI application for Departments under the Chennai Corporation Chennai Corporation and other government departments in the city still follow the traditional way of filing an RTI application The citizen does not have the facility to track the status of the application as well. Implement the online RTI application tool which the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has implemented for all Central Government departments and some other state governments. This can help the citizens a lot

Chennai cities common and public places require a clean enhancement. That is free from clutter and every citizen should feel proud to be there. Consider selecting each such places and enhance them. This city has enormous advantage from history, to cultural depth. Clean and tastefully enhanced common places will add lot of value. Improve health and joy of living. However the city grows, people must stay back and love it. I added one small thought, if that helps. Thank you.

Transport – Locate the nearest Parking Lot Chennai city has a big problem with parking. It would be good if we can help people locate the nearest parking lot by building a mobile app (similar to the OLA app) which will show the nearest parking lot within 100 / 200 / 500 metres from anywhere in the city. For non-smart phones, a simple sms message like “PARKING 600040” should give a list of location of all parking lots in that pin code..

Food – Locate the nearest Amutham – Fair price shop Chennai city has Amutham or TUCS fair price shops across the city. It would be good if we can help people locate the nearest Amutham by building a mobile app (similar to the OLA app) which will show the nearest Amutham within 100 / 200 / 500 metres from anywhere in the city. For non-smart phones, a simple sms message like “Amutham 600040” should give a list of location of all amuthams in that pin code..

It would be good if we can help people locate the nearest Dust bin by building a mobile app (similar to the OLA app) which will show the nearest dust bin within 100 / 200 / 500 metres from anywhere in the city. For non-smart phones, a simple sms message like “DUST BIN 600040” should give a list of location of all dust bins in that pin code..
