Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th November, 2015.

My first suggestion is to extend the last date of submission as many people are not aware of this initiative. Kindly make it popular by various means.

Waste issue - Encourage local self help groups along with corporation to segregate traffic and use plasma arc technology to create energy and waste proposal . dumping yards at palikarnanai and other ecosensitive places should be stopped immediately Plastic roads where proposed by corporation but has not been implemented in spirit . this helps road last longer as well as reduce waste

Energy - Rope in companies like Solar city ( US) model , where in solar making company asks the customer to pay the money in installments , typically these installments are for 20 years and they are less than the electricity charges from grid , this will be great initiative if taken by govt Also rope in companies like Tesla and other electric car manufacures to have their technology and manufacturing units in Chennai , as we already have lots of expertise .

IN SMART CITIES,MAKE LAND SCAPING(VEGETABLE GARDENING)INTEGRAL PART OF BUILDING BYE LAWS.IN NEIGHBORHOODS, COMMUNITY CAR PARKING SHOULD BE PLANNED.EMPHASIS SHOULD BE ON PEDESTRIANISATION AND PROVISION OF BICYCLE TRACKS IN NEIGHBOR HOODS.FOR MULTISTOREYED BUILDINGS,VEGETABLE GARDENS SHOULD BE INTEGRATED WITH BALCONIES AND EXCLUSIVE TERRACES HAVE TO BE PROVIDED TO GROW GARDENS IN ALTERNATE FLOORS.

travel * Make metro the primary mode of transportation by making it clean, affordable , by integrating with buses , MRTS and suburban railway . Also try to get cycle stations for last mile connectivity . * Make buses into CNG instead of disel , this would bring down operational cost as well as give cleaner air for the residents of the city * ensure more LPG gas stations are there in the city so that autos are encouraged to us LPG instead of petrol and diesel .

Water resources * -Enforce , rain water harvesting more vigilantly . * -although there is desalination plants , would like the corporation to look at new technologies ( eg video attached of manoj bhargvas technology in US ) * - plug all the sewage connections to all rivers and lakes in the city and state , enforce strict violation charges against companies and make the charges in the public forum . * promote tourism in and around all lakes and rivers
