Any smart city is only defined as smart if it does something in a quick, efficient, cost-friendly, environmentally-sensitive and unique manner. These are what can be implemented:
1) Smart Transport- Integration of Suburban, Metro, MRTS and MTC under ONE TICKETING SYSTEM - easy access to tourists and citizens.
2) Smart Energy- Using Non-Renewable energy like Solar plants, encouraging electric cars and buses.
3) Smart Tech- Installing Speed cameras, congestion zones, for traffic regulation

Chennai cannot continue with 19th century ideas of urban planning. We have to allow the tallest buildings that technology and our resources can produce. This requires careful analysis, formulation of goals and the building-up of policy institutions and resources.
Regarding infrastructure, we cannot stumble from one failed method to the next one. All contemporary urban planning needs systems engineering, the same way that a countrywide electrical distribution does.

Greeneries will always enhance our infrastructure. I have seen many pineapple trees and flowers in some of the toll roads medians. We just have to increase them and use this idea in all 4 lane or 6 lane roads with medians. This will make the city look rich.

Rain water harvesting must be done in all the subways of the city importantly which gets flooded during rainy season. And necessary steps should be taken to eradicate water stagnation.

For people who are below poverty line/living in huts, should be shifted to apartments. Corporation should take necessary steps to build housing for them. A smart city should consist of all facilities that benefit one and all in the city. Most of them might be uneducated. We can take media help (ads with actors) in creating awareness among them to use the facilities in the smart city.

Marina beach is our pride. Install cute dustbins on the soil every half km lengthwise. People having stalls on the beach should be educated about keeping the beach clean and we should make them take the responsibility in correcting the citizens who litter the place. Also placards with info on marina should be kept on the beach at fixed distances. The infra of the lighthouse can be enhanced and can be converted to a sea view point tourist attraction.

Advertise to create awareness on car pooling. We can start this with IT offices and banks. All software firms know about these, but the implementation is very low. We can ask them to send frequent mails to their employees to create awareness and interest. In this way, traffic during weekdays will lessen to a good extent.

Corporation should take actions for stray dogs eradication. People who love dogs should adopt one and take care of it. Road dogs are just making a mess. No developed country has any animals on the road, we should definitely take a step for this. In many places we also see cows and pigs on the road. The owners should be warned of this or impose fines for such acts. Making a city smart comes with cleanliness in first place.
